Hope you get a chance to, as long as the museum units remain in good condition.
Have you ever ridden AB's - either in regular service, or the museum B-type unit?
Hope so!

Here's the report:

Tuscarora Almanac - August 4, 1969 - The Book of Last Runs

Brooklyn, New York
New York City Transit Authority
BMT Division

This is the last day of operation the 67 foot Standards. The fleet was once 950 cars strong and dominated the rapid transit lines of the Brooklyn - Manhattan Transit Company. The last train ran on the “M” Myrtle Avenue-Nassau St Line (BMT Rt.10) leaving Metropolitan Avenue at 4:49 PM and Broad Street at 5:26 PM. The train consisted of two “B” Type three car units, (S) 2531-2-3, 2466-2649-2467.

I also liked the R46s when new. Now, they strike me as lumbering and slow- as having outlived their day. Maybe that's because I usually see them on the R.

In any event, once in a while, and especially if the air conditioning is really cranked up, a bit of their original ambiance, and (this may seem crazy) unique smell is present, and I'm transported back to 1976. Otherwise, when I think of R46s, I think of drag-assing from City Hall to Canal, a long hold in Canal, and the front 2 cars going dark (happens on R160s and Arnines as well) due to a local power issue.

I Know!
The R killed them,for sure,but I still love'em.
The day the R first received the 46s was somewhat of a blessing, though.

Everything on that line was the worst of the worst.
The swap meant new cars for the N since it became sole responsibility of Stillwell and the big R68s.
The R received the N former rolling stock which was anything out of Jamaica Yard that was able to make service.
However,I loved seeing the 46s on the G.
Kinda felt they sorta belonged there.

To this day,I DON'T like the 68s.
Bland, sterilized atmosphere with a lumbering lurching feel that kills any railfaning affection.
If the railfan window was still available,THAT would have been its saving grace.

Back when the R-68s were new, and before they were linked, once in a while you'd get a train whose lead motor had the half cab facing out. Talk about the ultimate RFW view!

I mostly ride and see them on the A line, an express line and feel the same way. I much prefer the 179s & 32s on the A. I'd still rather have a 46 on the F rather than the 160's as crazy as it may sound lol.

I know when the 211s come and start dominating the A line I'm gonna start to prefer the 46s over the NTT, just an weird railfan quirk.

The front 2 cars go "dark" (but they do have emergency lights) at Canal simply because of a third rail gap.

That’s correct. Prior to platform lengthening, there was no problem since the entire station ended before the gap. When the platform was lengthened, the north cars were right at the gap so they would go dark.

Agreed 100%
I liked the 46's when the way they were delivered.
I liked the blue stripe, the flush door in the front, the front with the black section and i liked the yellow & white letter for the N.
When they changed it to yellow and black in my opinion it did not look as esthetic

The problem with the N, Q, R, W letters is that when the original color was selected for the N, the background color was more of a gold which showed up the white letter better. The supposed story was that the contractor selected for the group of signs for the new color schemes was unable to supply an actual gold color and substituted yellow. Since white on yellow was difficult to see, the decision was made top have black letters on the yellow instead.

Many moons ago, the color-keyed LIRR branch schedules had their font in that color as well. The Hempstead Branch schedule was hard to read. This could be an ADA reg for all I know. Didn't they have to change the enameled station signs to be white font on black background ?

YES! When the 68's were new and I saw the gold and black for the first time. I knew there was something I did not like about the 68 vs 46. The other was the recessed door of the 68 vs the flush one of the 46.

If the background were gold then the letter could be white. The reason for the black letter is that the sign manufacturer was supposedly only able to supply yellow.
