The difference with the MannyB tracks is that they were held O/S due to problems with the bridge itself and beyond the control of the MTA unlike threat of the MTA’s maintenance which is direct responsibility of the agency.

Exactly.

My point was, you cater to WMATA in this case by scheduling for 6:40 PM, and many CEOs, COOs and CFOs in LA and the rest of the Pacific Time Zone are LIVID because of employees looking to leave work early as say 2:30 or 3:00 PM to get to where they need to be to see the game.

What happens when the Dodgers play on the east coast during the regular season? They don't have to cater to the west coast. Half the US population lives in the Eastern time zone. The only media market other than LA that is larger than DC is San Francisco, the others are all in the Eastern or Central time zones. And why wouldn't CEOs, COOs, and CFOs in DC be livid that their employees were up until nearly 1 AM watching the baseball game and coming to work exhausted the next day?

MLB's been in bed with network TV. For decades. Remember when NBC had the playoffs and/or World series? Games would start at 8:00 PM (Eastern). To make money.

Except on Thursdays. Then the game would start no earlier than 8:30 PM. Why? Because of Cosby. That's right. He may be disgraced now, but then his show was the #1 program. Not just on NBC but for the entire broadcast nation. And NBC was in no way going to preempt its #1 show just for baseball. Even it was the World Series.

The origenal 2 were Westinghouse they were replaced by 3 from I believe Thyssen or Kone then replaced by 3 from another vendor.

Schindler acquired Westinghouse Elevator and Escalator division in 1989 which happens to roughly coincide with the time WMATA began competitive bidding escalator contracts for individual stations.

In a place like New York City where plenty of people do not drive and/or do not have cars - public transit access to a sports stadium is paramount.

Hence Madison Square Garden is in a perfect spot concerning transit and transportation access.

In places where the main method of travel is the car - getting to and from the stadium becomes a much different affair. I suppose that is why there are plenty of "tail-gate parties" as folks arrive very early before they are entire the stadium.

It has nothing to do with who is in the playoffs.

The problem is, regardless of which teams are in the postseason, it seems those on the west coast have for as long as I can remember been the ones who force things on the east coast and if it were REALLY up to them, all major events would not start before 6:30 PM local time/9:30 PM ET and preferably 7:00 PM PT/10:00 PM ET (that in fact was one reason through 1979 the Oscar telecast for example never started before 10:00 PM ET, it was only when in '79 John Wayne's speech in what turned out to be his final public appearance did not go until 1:25 AM ET did that change).

Monthly pass commuters don't really get as much a discount over the "true fare". A lot of the cost of a fare goes into fixed costs that are only used to their potential during rush hour. Monthly passes always cost more than 40 x one fare. So unless they are making multiple trips during each rush hour, the extra rides they use to bring their cost per ride down are all occurring outside of the time when equipment is used the most. While off peak service costs money to provide, there still is a lot of overhead being wasted outside peak. By incentivising people to ride transit over other forms (simply because "they already paid for it") they are better able to reduce car traffic during off peak times, which makes life easier for pretty much everyone.

To most people on the east coast, it does, but the problem is, there is a west coast and based on everything, it seems the west coast has far greater influence than some realize.

Basically, it's believed by some that those on the west coast are more affluent and matter more based on what we have seen.

Well, that's what some in the west I've dealt with have actually said.

Some in the west seem to act like they should get priority over the east coast.

Wallyhorse lives in his own alternate timeline.

Check his post in the Myrtle Avenue thread where he said New York City was driven to bankruptcy by the 1969-1975 recessions

That is unfortunate. Years ago when I took a supervisory/management course given by the MTA, the theory was that management is defined as “getting things done through other people” and as such is an activity unto itself. In plain terms, it meant that as a manager, I should be able to go to an A & P super market and run it efficiently, and the manager from the A & P should be a blue to come to the MTA and perform my job efficiently. Practical hans on knowledge of the functions of the subordinates was not required. I personally think that is a load of BS and the especially in the field of something as specialized as transportation, an exhaustively encyclopedic knowledge of every aspect of the industry from the highest manager to the lowest employee is an absolute non negotiable requirement for a manager in that field. Sometimes even taking manager from the outside as has been recently done with the MTA from other “Toonerville Trolley” transit systems don't put the best managers in place. From what I was told when I visited WMATA years ago, most if not all of the policy is made bet suits who have less than no clue about running a mass transit system which is probably the cause of most of WMATA’s problems..
