Street:One of my favorite pics of South 4th Street: The only turnout that I've seen on the G, outside of Queens Blvd Subway(when it USED to run there) is at Bedford-Nostrand - Two track stub to Broadway, then Stanhope St ...to the Myrtle Ave Subway [IND Second System]..... To be honest I never knew that there was a station upstairs, above the Broadway (G) station...but I've never seen any turnouts or bellmouths from the lower (GG) crosstown line tunnel to the UPPER SOUTH 4TH st tunnels... BTW, how long has the northern half of the mezzanine at the Broadway station been sealed up for? |

The IRT had plenty of plans for Brooklyn that never came about..that the IND[BOARD OF TRANSPORTATION] basically assumed the rights to build once ALL subway construction was placed in their hands. This line..like all the others were blocked by that company and replaced with a plan from them in 1929 |

What I don't understand is why a full station shell similar to either So 4 St or Utica upper wasn't built at that location since if the SAS were to be constructed to connect to those other tunnels, there would have been some disruption to existing train service. I have also heard that there is a similar provision at the 1 Av end of 2 Av station in the event that the city opted to route the subway up 1 Av instead of 2 Av. |

I'm not sure if the express tracks were intended for any entirely new line, but S/O N/Lts station there is a provision in the el structure for the Livonia Av Line to continue east along N/Lts Av but I can't recall how far that line was supposed to go. |

I don't think he means 76 St/Pitkin Av, but 76 St is the approximate vicinity of the Bkln/Queens border. The last time I looked at a map of the area, I recall that there is a large housing complex right in the path of where the N/Lts extension was supposed to go. |

Yes, at Fountain Av (a lady that attended my grandmother's church used to live in that complex). I guess the line would've been built before the housing was built (maybe Newlots Ave would;ve been extended?).As mnay times as I saw the Newlots Av station, I never noticed that turnout! |

It's hard to see the turnout unless you look from the very south end of the platform or are an employee who has occasion to ride into the yard. I don't think it would be a matter of extending N/Lts Av since I believe it went through before the houses were built and it was probably cut off at that point. |
