When did a train hit the block at that location last? They are just finding ways to slow the system down and waste money on stuff that has no real purpose. |

The issue is not "that location" The issue is the correct protocol for entering a terminal against a bumper block. This is the same along all railroad and transit systems: Stop 5 car lengths out, stop again 1 car length out. Thses signals just enforce this, but go look at any NYCT terminal, and you will see these same signals present. So they rebuilded this one. So What? OK, I do not recall NYCT comming to a full stop 5 cars out, but the signal is there, and if you are too fast at that point you will be tripped.ROAR |

I remember when IRT and BMT terminals did not have any GT signals entering terminals at all, and I was always amazed at the speed some of the IRT M/M I knew would enter the terminal at V/C despite the TA rules that specified that trains were not to exceed 15 MPH (a speed limit which has been reduced over the years) entering terminals ending in bumping blocks. The IND seems to be the first division that had timers entering its terminals and over the years as signals on the other divisions were upgraded, timers were added at the terminals. |

Yes, based upon my past and recent visits to Lefferts, the curve there is considered a bit more tighter on that side, when entering into the terminal at that point towards the bumper block. There is also a "Blind Stop" [K2-594A] sign, and coming soon past way there is the ADA elevator to be installed, as part of the station's renovation (along with new street entrance stairways). The signals on track K1 has not been changed at this time, though.-William A. Padron ["K1-595'} |

Yes, there is a blind stop sign there (K2-594A). The nighttime Euclid-Lefferts shuttle service is said to operate as an OPTO.-William A. Padron ["N-141"] |

Yes, but when the policy is unenforced then the service begins to reflect the more efficient terminal stops. When contract times rolls around the system is then disrupted by rulebook slowdowns. The MTA has been systematically forcing the system to work to rule to take away that leverage. |

As far as I am concerned, they can put whatever signals are necessary to keep the train from going past the bumper block. Maybe a camera or two wouldn't hurt either; post the pictures on Facebook so everyone knows ho sped past the bumper block. For that matter, they can position a trained marksman there if that will keep train operators from speeding, even if it isn't that many that do it. You don't get a "do-over" or an extra life if the train goes past the bumper block, unless you're Sylvester the cat. |
