I remember when IRT and BMT terminals did not have any GT signals entering terminals at all, and I was always amazed at the speed some of the IRT M/M I knew would enter the terminal at V/C despite the TA rules that specified that trains were not to exceed 15 MPH (a speed limit which has been reduced over the years) entering terminals ending in bumping blocks. The IND seems to be the first division that had timers entering its terminals and over the years as signals on the other divisions were upgraded, timers were added at the terminals.
