Do they also object to Oriental Blvd in Brooklyn? Why shouldn't I object to all the "white" lines in the street. Seems everyone is getting too sensitive. See how the PC police are trying to get the Washington Redskins to change their name!!!! |

This thread brings up an interesting thought - if the Yellow Line offends the Asian-American communities in the Atlanta area, how come the Chicago area's Yellow Line offend the Asian-Americans in Skokie? Skokie has a significant Asian-American population (about 25%).Anyway, if MARTA were to start a fifth line, I would call it the Pink Line, but not if it serves the gay neighborhoods (where it should be the Brown Line instead), since pink promotes a stereotype that all gay men like the color pink, which is a totally false and harmful stereotype. |

Chicago's Pink Line doesn't go through any particularly gay neighborhoods, but it did debut on the day of the Pride Parade in 2006. |

The selection of the color pink had nothing to do with the Pride Parade; it was selected in a contest surveying students from kindergarten to 8th grade, and pink won. What stereotype about gay men does brown represent? I never heard of any stereotype that relates gay men with the color brown. Usually the stereotypes are pink or purple. |

I haven't taken the time to read every post in this long thread, so if this has been mentioned, sorry for the extra post....but I'm just going to be a bit silly here.... I lived in Boston for many years, with its large Irish American population, and I never heard any objection to the named "Orange" line. Though it would not surprise me, if the Red line had been named the Orange line instead, that there might have been grumblings from "Southie" (South Boston) about this... |

The line through Southie probably should have been designated as the Green Line and I'm sure the Irish population there would not have objected. |
