And remember, while you might get a good two-for-one deal on a lawyer to represent you for the criminal and civil matters, you're always entitled to a free lawyer if you're charged with a crime! |

With all the pics you take, I'm really surprised that this was the first time you were stopped and harassed. In 1986 I saw a teenager beat the crap out of an old lady on the BSS. A cop entered at City Hall and DID NOTHING. I finally intervened. 25 years later they are breaking balls for taking pictures of trains. Brainless. |

The cop is always right - you should have apologized and moved onYour attitude is wrong. Cops do get things wrong, and they should be held accountable for their actions. It is like any other customer-facing job: you screw up in front of the customers and you should expect to get an earful from the boss; too many screw-ups and you're fired. 4. The cop made a mistake and did not understand the law It's his job to understand the law. It's not his job to usurp the powers vested in Congress by the Constitution and start making laws up. Failure in this regard is gross incompetence and cause for dismissal. 5. There is no war on photography Unfortunately, we have seen before evidence of senior cops misleading their subordinates as to what the law is on photography. This is misconduct in a public office, and they should be prosecuted for this. Until these bad cops end up either out of a job or in jail, they will not stop their war on photography and usurpation of congressional powers. I know you are an ex-cop and have a natural wagon-circling instinct, but in order to restore the much-damaged dignity of your profession, you most of all should be calling for the uniformed criminals in police departments to be prosecuted for their crimes. |

Posted by Avid Reader on Mon Sep 5 11:06:44 2011, in response to War On Photography Continues In Philly, posted by Fred G on Mon Dec 27 17:57:43 2010. Sometimes some folks in positions of authority make mistakes. When they are made aware of the mistakes, they have options they can take. 1) admit the error, and correct themselves. 2) over react and compound the error, abusing the position they are entrusted with. 3) over react and compound the error, abuse their position, and try to white wash the mistake with a false charge. If the original(plain clothes) person holds a position superior to the backup personal, he may try to coerce them to support his position of disturbing the peace. This painfully resembles what is going on in the southwest, with our current Federal administration, and "Fast and Furious" scandal. The abusers must be brought to task, and punished, and/or removed, and lose any, and all pension benefits! avid |

Avid, the educated, prolific photographers here are aware of SEPTA's photography policy. They are also well aware that amateur, non-commercial photo photography is not legally prohibited within any public transit system in the USA except maybe on PATH and maybe at the Pentagon station on WMATA. |
