Saw 9808-9812 up close today, and they definitely have Alstom Onix propulsion.

All 140 cars in this group are destined to Jamaica for service.

40 R-160Bs (9123-9162) were transferred Coney Island to Jamaica to "meet service requirements."

Simple as that.

Clarification:

Since at least 2001, Coney Island's fleet roster has varied between about 750 and 810 cars. Since delivery of the R-160B's it grew to about 850, but service levels have remained steady. Ergo, the 40 R-160B's that were transferred to Jamaica were expendable, given current service requirements.

At least that was the explanation as received.
