The LIRR could very easily have dealt with the comparative narrowness of the M-7's, simply by using 2x2 seating like on the diesel coaches.

And then the SCAs would complain that their aren't enough seats.

I seem to be the only person who isn't complaining about M-7 seats. They're rather comfortable, and they're not as bad as everybody makes them out to be. Although, I must note that I'm 5'7, 130lbs, and obviously rather thin (and short).
