Hey Peter, they're putting in wider seats for you! Except that you'll have to move to take advantage of them.
I didn't know the LIRR tunnels were narrower than the ones Metro-North uses. Now I do.

The LIRR could very easily have dealt with the comparative narrowness of the M-7's, simply by using 2x2 seating like on the diesel coaches.
