1917 – from The Book of First Runs

The IRT 7th Avenue Line opens between Times Square (1,2,3 platforms) and 34th Street - Pennsylvania Station. Initially service is provided by shuttle trains between these two points.



1965 – from The Book of Wrecks

A layup train of R-1/9’s hits the bumping block east of Euclid Avenue Station. Lead car R-6 623 was badly damaged. The motorman was trapped for several hours and later died. Car 623 was scrapped on March 17, 1973.

2011 – from The Book of First Runs

A three way free transfer point with “in house” controls opens. It will connect Court Square station on the IRT Flushing Line (7) with the Court Square-23rd Street station on the IND Queens Line (E,M) and the Court Square station on the IND Crosstown Line (G).

Coinciding with the opening “45th Road-Court House Square” station on the Flushing Line was renamed “Court Square”. “23rd Street-Ely Avenue station on the IND Queens Line was renamed “Court Square-23rd Street” back in May.
