Re: Question About Pre-1950 Rockaway Beach/Far Rockaway LIRR Service

Posted by Joe V on Wed Feb 17 12:47:11 2021, in response to Question About Pre-1950 Rockaway Beach/Far Rockaway LIRR Service, posted by Mitch45 on Wed Feb 17 11:32:50 2021.

Gibson station was built later than the rest, around 1928, with hundreds of houses (restricted to Jewish people by the way - there was a sign along Gibson Blvd from Hewlett saying as much). There was no grade crossing at its far end. All the other stations did, except Woodmere, but Woodmere and Cedarhurst had pedestrian crossings with bells and lights mid-way through. Pre-1968 Hewlett station was on the curve.

Nothing terminated along the branch in either the Five Towns or Gibson. Loop trains changed between odd and even train number at Valley Stream.
