I have to disagree with you about Gibson not having a grade crossing. Here is an aerial photo of Gibson station in 1929, with the surrounding residential area. You can clearly see a road crossing the tracks on the western (Valley Stream) end of the station.ww.trainsarefun.com/lirr/farrockawaybranch/GIbson-Station-aerial_c.1929.jpg Interestingly, though, this photograph doesn't show the overpass; however, a photo from 1967 on the same site does show the overpass. All of the stations on the Far Rock branch had low level platforms until the M-1's came in the early 1970's. Why would the station need an overpass? |
