Although I am not a civil engineer, I fail to see how a structure above one that is in use would be needed to maintain any sort of structural integrity. Retaining the unused 3 Ave el platform at Gun Hill Rd is another matter since the abandoned potion of the structure is below the one still in use and would be needed to support the one above.
