Re: [PHOTOS] Myrtle Ave ''el'' Comes Down (Myrtle & Flatbush)

After the 6th Ave el closed on 12/04/1938, the section above 53rd St, from 9th Ave to Broadway was kept to connect to the power station there.

The Broadway-Brooklyn spur, from west of Marcy Ave to Broadway Ferry was kept primarily for the power cable connection from Kent Ave. Gate cars were also laid up there until August, 1927, when sufficient steel cars were found for rush-hour B'way-Bklyn service.

Also, a section on Grand Ave, south of Myrtle, on the Lexington Ave el was kept up for the same reason. The underground-to-elevated power cable was about 2 blocks away on Grand. That portion of the Lex el was demolished, along with the Myrtle Ave el's Grand Ave station in early 1953.
