As Kevin said, the Spur is a turnback track, which in this case is used for the overnight #3 service. It can be used as needed to turn #1's #2's and #3 in the event of an unforeseen service disruption or some other Planned General Order.

The last FasTrack project at the end of the year will have #1 and #2 service end their runs at 34th St Penn Station on the express tracks. In order to accomplish this, the Spur will have to be utilized, that is, it will be possible to ride this section of track.

Now I wonder if the 2's will be running to Dyre again....

As for the operation of the Lo-V's on the shuttle, a test was done some years ago with the set on Track 4.
