"that places it UNDER the east side platform"

I went back and looked at Dougherty's track map - indeed it is. I even overlooked that when referring to it while writing the post.

What a mistake!!!!!!!!!! How embarrassing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The few times I took the #5 from 149th St./Mott, onto the Lex tracks*, I could have sworn the train descended on that curve to get to the East side tracks. Guess I assumed that he east side station was underneath 149th St./Mott because it was built later.
How wrong I was.

*have not ridden up there in years.

"..,original 149/Mott station was built, ... not even a thought of another subway in that area yet."

the thought about including a provision for another station popped into my head while reading your previous post about the Woodlawn line's original opening. Got me wondering, what if? But I pretty much came to the same conclusion after reading the info. about contract date being Nov. 1911.
Thanks.
