I just noticed a new item in my W2 form (end of year wage and tax statement).

In Item 12, there is an amount with code DD. This is the amount your employer spent for your health care. This INCLUDES all that they spent, whether or not you paid part or all of it (some employers make group plans available to their employees at group rates).

So what is this about, and why do the Feds want to know. The answer is: the less-talked-about rules of Obamacare are starting to kick in. to reach a crescendo in 2014.

WHY is this there? The official answer: "The purpose of the reporting requirement is to provide useful and comparable consumer information to employees on the cost of their health coverage. It does not cause otherwise excludable employer-provided health coverage to become taxable."

Do you believe this? It's for OUR information? The gummint just HAPPENS to see this also. Are you comfortable that, in the famous words of FDR: "This isn't going to cost anybody anything."
