What makes you think that we do not pay taxes?

We pay tax on most of our property. If I do not pay income tax, it is because I have no income, not because I work for the church. Churches in North Dakota do pay sales taxes, but are exempt from property taxes.

The monastery *does* pay property taxes on three square miles of farm land. Only the land under the church itself is exempt. But property taxes do not cover health costs, now do they.

If our church or monastery is exempt from income tax it has jumped through several IRS hoops to be classified as 501.3 c organization. But many such organizations are so exempt, the law was not written for churches.

LION would tax (at a federal level) all income, with no exemptions.

LION would suggest:
$0.00 to $100,000 = 0% tax
$100,000 to $200,000 = 10% tax
$200,000 to $1,000,000 = 15% tax
$1,000,000 to $2,000,000 = 20% tax
and $2,000,000 and up = 25% tax (top rate)
Remember there are no deductions, and no exemptions.

LION would like ZERO tax on corporations and businesses,
but that is not going to happen.
First a tax on business is irrelevant: They will pass the cost on to you with higher prices anyway.
Second: is is the company that gets to say what is expense and what is profit, and they will fudge those numbers anyway.

Since it is politically impossible to eliminate tax on companies, LION suggests a 1% tax on GROSS income, and not on profits. You touched the money, you pay the tax on it. Dead Simple. No extra accountants needed.

The other side of the coin is to eliminate almost all federal expenses. The Military is the only real justified expense outside of the operation of the government itself. Everything else should be shifted to the States. So the LION would reduce your federal tax to almost zero, or to zero for most people, but increase state taxes to cover the needs, which truly are there. There *ARE* things that only government can take care of, but all ought to be done at the LOWEST level of government possible.
