I'd read that the State's Attorney overrode the dissenting police investigator's dispute of Zimmerman's account so perhaps it is State's Attorney who's charged with this. I took that to mean the police turned to the SA upon not reaching a unanimous decision but I could be wrong.your pal, Fred |

In the criminal justice system, the people are represented by two separate yet equally important groups: the police who investigate crime and the district attorneys who prosecute the offenders. |

Again, unless I had an extremely strong case, I'd be loath to bet my life on a jury if I were in Zimmerman'd shoes. There is plenty of evidence to rebut Zimmerman's self-serving version of events. Besides, criminal trials generally have VERY high conviction rates'especially for homicides. |

"There is plenty of evidence to rebut Zimmerman's self-serving version of events."Are you privy to what the autopsy results were? Have you read the unredacted statements of the two eye witnesses? Have you had a chance to review the phone records & entire 9-1-1 tapes? Have you had a chance to analyze all of the other forensic evidence? Can you reveal, from your conversations with the defense counsel, what their strategy will be? It seems to me that your over-confidence in the outcome is more wishful thinking than it is rooted in fact. I still say that we should let the trial play out and regardless of our own points of view or prejudices, accept the verdict - be it by jury or bench or by plea. |

Or it suggests that the prosecutor wanted to quell community tensions or was bowing to political pressure. The evidence was not heard by a grand jury either. I have no stake in the outcome here other than I plan on using the Autotrain in July and would hope that Sanford will be a quiet little back-woods community when I pass through. If Zimmerman is guilty, then let him pay his due but until then, we all owe him the presumption of innocence. |

Fashion violations notwithstanding, Lambda Legal, an LGBT-rights law firm, has actually done some excellent research on the way jurors see gay defendants. Society's prejudices don't get checked at the courthouse door. For example, the conviction rate for homosexuality at trial--before SCOTUS decriminalized us--was close to 100%, even in the flimsiest of cases. |
