But the provision of welfare has a direct cost on the financial situation of a municipality. In contrast, increasing the minimum wage doesn't directly affect how municipalities are run given that most are limited to only collecting property taxes so the loss of workers isn't that harmful to tax revenues.

I think what he's saying is that welfare payments are "run through" the local government which then collects taxes on productive activity while a wage increase is borne by the consuner more directly. Since less hands "touch the money", overall cost should be less.

Yes, that works until your jurisdiction becomes a magnet due to the welfare benefits, and then you're stuck with increasing tax rates to pay for the benefits. Local balkanized distribution of welfare is the worst thing possible, and if we're going to implement a strong welfare state it needs to be done at the national level so we don't have states dumping their poor and sick citizens on states that have decided to care for their citizens.

I can sell you a book on how to do accounting for foodservice. It's not dependent on a single employee. The original article just said cost of doing business.

That's the record breaking taxes, and fees. Most of which you never hear about nor see in your check.

The taxes fees and wages of those who do the daily shipments of foods.
Fat food taxes.
Regulatory fees, it's expensive to file their taxes and sales taxes in some cities. I can cite you a department store that circled a city completely once and refused to open IN said city.
And so on.

Like how it takes, what was it 47 days or something just to open a lemonade stand in NYC.
Or how it takes millions of dollars just to file the paperwork for a keystone pipeline, but with no results. That factors into your gas prices btw. The people who did the keystone pipeline must've been what everyone calls speculators. They speculated they weren't going to be the first pipeline ever denied by politics.

Yes but forcing the increase in wages causes the price of goods and services to go up along with it. So the increase in wage is lost because the worker is also a consumer and now also has to pay more for goods and services.

I'll guess some keystrokes are missing in that second to last word ... I dunno. Cutting job training and education is supposed to improve the poor's lot exactly how?

Why are you arguing with the facts? Subway says that due to the high cost of doing business in San Francisco, they choose not to participate in the $5 foot-long program. It is what it is. By the way it takes far less than 10 minutes.
