Jimmy Carter was the worst by far in the last 50 years. He was absolutely inept--foreign policy, inflation, taxes, energy, hostage crisis, interest rates. Just pathetic. LBJ was the greatest education and civil rights President in history but he will never be recognized as a good President because of all the riots, the breakdown of law and order in this country and the Viet Nam War which, talking about lieing to the American people, this is one President who did. Another talented man, Richard Nixon was so paranoid that he destroyed himself and almost brought down the country with him. The back in his was James Burchanan, Martin Van Buren, John Tyler, Andrew Johnson, Benjamin Harrison, Herbert Hoover. These were Presidents a hell of a lot worse than "W". Come guys, read some history. |

Ridiculously high inflation, interest rates thru the roof, an aggressive Soviet Union which invaded Afghanistan in 1979 and his seemingly impotent response(s) to the Iranian hostage crisis. He brought the wrath of many of the moderates/conservatives in his own party when he cancelled the B1 bomber, yet enraged the liberal wing when he boycotted the 1980 Olympics in Moscow. In the 1980 elections, liberals stayed home, the centrists and conservatives voted for Reagan. Carter's disastrous presidency began the process of turning the deep south into the bastion of Republican strength it is today. |

They can run on biodiesel . . . and in fact, you can run diesel engines on pulverized coal if need be . . .Speaking of which, why is diesel now more expensive than high-test gasoline? That stuff's cheaper to produce than regular gas, and indeed used to be way cheaper per gallon than regular gas. (What is is, that "low-sulfur" excuse now . . . ?) |

Among other things.They ran on coal, once. And they ran on wood before the forests got exhausted. Trains can easily be made to run on nuclear fuel by proxy - this is because they can easily be hooked up to wires. The wires can be run to nucular power plants. Indeed, many of the fastest trains in the world get their power from stationary generators in some building far away, by way of electricity - generators that burn not only oil, but methane, garbage, uranium/plutonium, coal, sunlight, the energy of running water, and the energy of wind. |
