They are viewed as two alternate life-styles. Don't you think if we teach heterosexuality and homosexuality and bisexuality, why not teach polygamy. There certainly many people who practice it. I even know someone in the Albany area who does. |

Being black gives you no special insight.I think everyone gets some insight by being who they are growing up how they did. Some people get more insight than others by their experiences, but everyone has something to contribute (that is of course different than saying that everyone's claims are equally valid, because they are surely not). Don't take anything I say personally, because it's not meant that way. I will condemn your(anyone's) arguments forcefully if they are wrong, but it's not meant against YOU(everybody) (which I why I blissfully ignore personal attacks!) Those children in the first video are being abused. Perhaps they are. That is slightly tangential to the discussion and a matter of some opinion, one that I really don't have one of at the moment. |

This issue hits home fairly hard for me, morose than many other issues here, as some of my closest friends and coworkers are gay. In talking with them, none of them chose to be gay. Therefore, I don't support the continued marginalization of homosexuals. So, it's personal. |

Everything eventually is "science"Glad you admit that. but teaching homosexuality in schools is social indoctrination as admitted by many posts in this thread. Oh so acknowledging that gays exist is social indoctrination? Interesting.... And yes I would lump black history under "social issues" depending on the content. Obviously teaching about slavery, jim crow, civil rights, etc are a legitimate subject as they were very much a part of American history. Oh OK, so one social issue is OK but the other is not. Interesting... Teaching that George Washington Carver was gay while interesting, is irrelevant since his being gay had nothing to do with his accomplishments. About as much as the fact that he was black, I suppose... Teaching about Harvey Milk, while interesting, is only doing so because of his sexuality since he accomplished relatively little in his lifetime. Will they be saying the about Barack Obama in ages to come? But then I suppose a better analogy is perhaps David Dinkins or Dave Patterson. Both were far less than stellar at their posts but did set a precedent and perhaps should be mentioned for that fact. |

No one is marginalizing a gay lifestyle here. We are saying that it should not be taught in schools - or in my case, in the lower grades. Second - I'm quite sure that your friends embraced their homosexuality without formal education. What will formal education do for the homosexual? Teach him or her that it is acceptable? We both know that the prejudices of the real world won't match up with what is taught..Did you ever see the movie "Stripes" where Bill Murray and Harold Ramis go to enlist in the Army and are asked by the recruiter if either of them were homosexual and Harold Ramis answers, "No, but we are both willing to learn!" |
