Oh so acknowledging that gays exist is social indoctrination? Interesting.... And yes I would lump black history under "social issues" depending on the content. Obviously teaching about slavery, jim crow, civil rights, etc are a legitimate subject as they were very much a part of American history. Oh OK, so one social issue is OK but the other is not. Interesting... Teaching that George Washington Carver was gay while interesting, is irrelevant since his being gay had nothing to do with his accomplishments. About as much as the fact that he was black, I suppose... Teaching about Harvey Milk, while interesting, is only doing so because of his sexuality since he accomplished relatively little in his lifetime. Will they be saying the about Barack Obama in ages to come? But then I suppose a better analogy is perhaps David Dinkins or Dave Patterson. Both were far less than stellar at their posts but did set a precedent and perhaps should be mentioned for that fact. |
