People want to be free to own property and accumulate wealth. What good is working only for basic needs and not much else. I would not want to work or live in a country that would not let me own my own house. Too many of those services have already been socialized and we all see how well they function - I would NOT want the MTA to be my electric or phone provider under ANY circumstances! |

I would've gone McCain if he had a more centrist VP and think he would have won if he picked, say, Jodi Rell over Palin. I think the US needs a Stephen Harper type in office, a true centrist that isn't an extreme.I believe private homes should not be confiscated. I believe all Americans should be employed, have a minimum of healthcare, and an acceptable minimum of shelter. I also believe that those convicted of heinous crimes should not be allowed to live better than any free person and our 8th Amendment allows inmates to live better than the free poor. |

Inmates get free healthcare and free higher education. They also have a certainty of a roof over their head and food in their belly. None of these are certainties for free persons and that is just wrong.Several years back, a life without parole inmate in Oregon who needed a kidney was pushed to the front of the line (and later denied) because not doing so constituted "cruel and unusual punishment". The 8th Amendment made sense when people were tarred and feathered or had their heads cut off. It doesn't make sense when they can live a better life incarcerated than free persons. |
