You don't have to worry about parking signs with the "Except Sunday" exception. You can park in lower or Midtown Manhattan, except those No Parking/Standing anytime locations. But you cannot stand at a bus stop for more than a second. :-) |

With this Friday being the observation of a national holiday with Sunday parking rules in effect, I had make sure my car was out of there by Midnight! LOL |

Some homeowners in Whitestone and College Point will BREAK your windshield, deflate your tires, or even slash your tires if you park in front of their house. And if you report it to the police, they'll say one or all of the following:"Did you SEE him do this?" "Can you get any witness to testify he saw you do this?" "Hey, these people are nuts. Don't provoke him- just park somewhere else." I speak from experience. |

The biggest "trick day" is the day after Thanksgiving. May people have the day off and either ASSUME it is a holiday or turn off their alarm clocks and sleep late. Either way they get ticketed. |

I enjoy all of those things 365 days a year since I either ride public transportation to NYC and ride public transportation in the 4 boroughs, or when I do take my car, I visit areas that still do not have parking restrictions. Areas like Flatlands, Brooklyn or the "Kings Bay" section of Brooklyn, a few blocks south and east of Sheepshead Bay High School. |

How do you know I was referring to Staten Island? :--)I said that I ride public transportation in the 4 boroughs. I very rarely ride public transportation on Staten Island since I'm off on weekends, and that's when the headways on S.I. are terrible for the most part. Once in a blue moon, I'll park at the Eltingville Transit Center, and start riding from there. Only problem with that is the S-79 is usually a zoo leaving Bay Ridge at the time I usually start heading back mid to late afternoon. |

At least here on S.I. we only have a handful of blocks with ASP, streets that are too narrow for the new wider sanitiation trucks to navigate, like down in New Dorp Beach off of Cedar Grove Avenue.Some parts of Brooklyn are still without ASP?? Into the late 1970s nearly everything south of Avenue U was ASP-free, with exceptions. Parking meter rates on New Dorp Lane (and everywhere else I assume) just went from 25 cents for 30 minutes to 25 cents for 20 minutes. The meters have the new time limit on them is small type, but the NYCDOT green and white parking signs do not indicate and have never indicated the time limit. The NYCDOT is helping to kill off business on New Dorp Lane. Why shop there and feed the meters when you can drive to the SI Mall or the Home Depot/Target Mall and park for hours for FREE. |

Kings Plaza started charging back around 1988 or so. They have a multi-level parking garage. Does Queens Center have a similar facility? I don't know of any malls with large open parking lots charging a fee. Didn't that crappy Albee Square mall also charge?I lived on a small 1-way street in Brooklyn. We had 4-day a week ASP until about 1980 when it dropped down to 2-day a week ASP. 4-days was overkill for a block of well-kept one and two family homes. Even 2-days was a pain in the ass but it was bearable. Our house had no garage but after a few years I was lucky enough to rent a neighbors garage for the small sum of $50/month until I moved out in 1990. |

Many assume meter rules don't apply, so the agents have a field day. Not correlated to parking, but Presidents' isn't all that major in NYC: mass transit runs on a Saturday, not Sunday schedule. That particular mall though is surrounded by dense residences all around. Population around the mall (within 1/2, 1.5, and 2.5 miles around the mall) is among the highest in all of the USA; I would imagine that many people simply walk to the mall. |

Ever since they destroyed Queens Blvd by reducing the speed limit, deliberately uncoordinating the lights and disallowing left turns to the mall, forcing me to drive to Forest Hills in order to make a U-turn, I found it easier to just take the Grand Central to the Long Island Malls... As for public transit - there is no way I can carry my shopping home on that! |

If you make a minimum purchase at some stores, you get a break on parking. The fact that there's no prominent chain store as anchor, and most of the stores (Amish Market? Maidenform? Joseph A. Bank? Johnny Rockets? Cold Stone?) are utterly useless to the average Queens resident is beside the point. And damn if I'm going to pay to park to go to a movie!! "Didn't that crappy Albee Square mall also charge?" Probably. The increasingly decrepit White Plains Galleria charges. So does Newport Centre. The Sears/Circuit City/Bed Bath & Beyond complex occupying the former Alexander's site in Rego Park does. Stamford Town Center has meters that are in effect six days a week. From what I've read, the famous Sherman Oaks Galleria charges for parking as well. That's said to be a tourist attraction in its own right. But to pay to park in order to spend money just rubs me the wrong way. |

Astoria.The problem is that I am not familiar with the streets around QC - When I used to drive to that mall I drove by sight (I have no familiarity at all with the local streets in the area) - I see the mall I make a left - but by the time I see it it is too late to get over to the service road where they now want you to make the left from. So I am forced to keep going - the next few lefts have "No U Turn" signs so the first U I can legally make is somewhere near Forest Hills. I simply can't be bothered - Roosevelt Field takes a lot less aggravation to get to and parking is FREE. |

Walking, tho, for me is not practical on a regular basis, since it is 6 miles or so to Queens Village. Did it once when I wanted the exercise; but it takes too long. 45m on bus and subway connection; about the same on the Q88. I rarely buy anything that won't fit on my lap or under the seat. |

That's why I am here to help.I can run short cuts around any traffic clusterfuck at will. For example, most cars from the Queensboro Bridge will use Van Dam to Borden to access either the LIE or BQE. If I see a conga line on Borden, I continue on Van Dam to Starr or Bradley (whichever one runs south), to Greenpoint then back on Borden. |
