"I don't know of any malls with large open parking lots charging a fee."Atlas Park 'Lifestyle Center' in Glendale, Queens has outdoor and indoor parking. And they charge for ALL of it. If you make a minimum purchase at some stores, you get a break on parking. The fact that there's no prominent chain store as anchor, and most of the stores (Amish Market? Maidenform? Joseph A. Bank? Johnny Rockets? Cold Stone?) are utterly useless to the average Queens resident is beside the point. And damn if I'm going to pay to park to go to a movie!! "Didn't that crappy Albee Square mall also charge?" Probably. The increasingly decrepit White Plains Galleria charges. So does Newport Centre. The Sears/Circuit City/Bed Bath & Beyond complex occupying the former Alexander's site in Rego Park does. Stamford Town Center has meters that are in effect six days a week. From what I've read, the famous Sherman Oaks Galleria charges for parking as well. That's said to be a tourist attraction in its own right. But to pay to park in order to spend money just rubs me the wrong way. |
