I wrote:

I think that is a reasonable response to deliberate insults, namely repeated referral to the "Democrat Party," "voting Democrat," and similar kinds of statements.

Why can't he (and others like him) refer to my party and my affiliation by its name? Don't try to tell me it's by accident, again and again.

Correct. It may not be quite as bad as using "Jew" as an adjective (instead of "Jewish"), but it is sort of the same idea. The correct adjectival form is "Democratic". Republicans don't like to use it because they want to suggest that Democrats are not actually democratic.

2. Ideological disagreement, fair enough.
3. Look at his trans in the military ban, Pence, and the Indiana mafia’s control of HHS.
a. It's wise to ban a group from the military that self-proclaims suicide rates of 41%. This wedge issue impacted 0.0047% of the US population (there were an estimated 15,500 trans in US military at the time of the ban), IMO not worth risking socialism over it, which will affect the entire population.
b. I completely see how Pence is religion incarnate, but his ilk will never win a national election again. In 2024 you're more likely to see Nikki Haley, Ted Cruz, Dan Crenshaw, or Trump Jr win the R primary than Mike Pence. If they slip back towards religious authoritarianism, they will lose the center.
c. I've no idea what you mean, how does Indiana control Health and Human Services?
4. Urban (R)s will champion urban causes, and rural (D)s will champion rural causes. If elected Scherie Murray (R candidate for NY-14) will not be introducing farm subsidy bills, her platform is oriented towards bringing large businesses to NY. On the flip side, Elise Stefanik (R-NY-21) has a golden spike from NARP, and her challenger Tedra Cobb (D) has "Support farmers through commercial kitchens, food hubs, aggregation, and Farm-to-table and farm-to-school programs" as part of her platform.
6. The Democrats were sane when they did NJ's reform and allowed for judicial discretion. The very reason that was stripped out of the NY one was because of fears it would be influenced by racism, and even now the calls for reform are only saying "allow judicial discretion in a tightly controlled manner" which means it's not really discretion at all, and they're hoping the masses think they're doing something about it.
7. Voting is controlled by the States rather than the Federal government, and since as you say NY has made their improvements, I don't think the NY Rs would bother undoing them were they to regain state power (their big campaigns are on repealing the SAFE Act and bail reform). The main difference for me is, I value 2A rights over voter rights, so this issue which harms some Americans is cancelled out by the Democratic party's march towards infringing everyone's gun rights at the state *and* Federal level. Personally, I'd rather not have to wait a minimum 4 months for a pistol permit application to even be read, than be able to vote a few days early.

3a. The manner of this ban (Presidential Tweet) makes the motivation suspect. If the Pentagon felt that it was a prudent action, they never would have allowed trans people in the military in the first place, or at least they would not have reacted the way they did to the Tweet.
3b. So what? A future Republican Party might well be a better party.
3c. It’s the name for a group of people who worked for the Gov. Pence administration who are now controlling HHS.
4. That’s fine if I were voting for mayor, but the House and Senate are essentially parliaments now. You’re not choosing your individual representative, you’re choosing the Speaker/Majority Leader. Only if the Democrat is particularly objectionable would I vote R.
6. The SJWs helped ruin the Democratic Party. But it remains to be seen how horrible the effects of this bail reform actually is. The problem is that a lot of the scare stories come from “tough on crime” sources stuck in 1990 like the NY Post. I actually want to see an objective analysis.
7. The federal government controls things to, and I don’t only vote in federal elections. I care more about voting rights than the second amendment. The former are more fundamental. Early voting isn’t for me, it’s for people who can’t vote on 18th Century Farmers’ Election Day for whatever reason. Republicans just love preventing people from voting to help get elected instead of trying to convince those people to vote for them.

3 - a. Fair enough. b. I think it's almost there already. c. Yikes!
Ok maybe there's more religious influence than I thought.
4. The hyperpartisan nature of Congress is a new phenomena but getting an opposite representative is more valuable, as they're an unpredictable swing vote. No one was speculating how Mitch McConnell and Chuck Schumer were going to vote on impeachment, but all eyes were on Joe Manchin and Susan Collins, and the rest of the Senate had to court their votes on key issues. And minor nit, but you are choosing the individual representative, that's literally the name you're filling the circle for on the ballot :)

6. I agree on the one-sidedness of the horror stories, but the other side is saying "just give it more time" rather than actually countering. Anecdotal but it seems that only one of every 5 horror stories gets anything resembling a rebuttal. I've rebutted a few myself (without a countering news article to back me up) in discussions because initially I wanted to "reform the reform" but at this point I'm getting shouted down for being too left on the issue. The sentiment has turned to "full repeal or (R)emove (E)very (D)emocrat in November" because of the initial obstinacy of most Dems and the continued resistance from Heastie. To her credit Stewart-Cousins reacted immediately (January 3rd) in considering changes, but didn't get enough backup and now her tenure as Senate Majority leader will likely be one term.

7. From the perspective of valuing voting rights over gun rights, your argument makes sense.

Voting rights are important because the elected officials tend to vote on legislation based on the way that those who vote in elections. If you narrow who is eligible to vote in elections you limit what legislation takes place. For example, if it became a law that gun owners were ineligible to vote because gun ownership except by a militia member was made a felony you would have legislatures less responsive to the rights and concerns of gun owners.

An excellent conservative argument for the importance of voting rights.

Of course, it will NEVER in your lifetime become law that gun owners are ineligible to vote, because that would counter the second amendment. Even NYC allows you to have a shotgun in your home to defend yourself.

Note that Manchin and Collins aren't actually unpredictable swing votes.

It's been a long time, if ever, since Collins defeated a Republican piece of legislation by her vote. And similarly, Manchin only votes with the Republicans when doing so doesn't change the outcome.

They aren't swing votes, they just play them on TV.

Yes. A vote for Collins is a vote for McConnell. Imagine if the Democrats almost win control of the Senate: 49-51 with a Democratic VP or 50-50 without one and Collins is reëlected. McConnell will be Maj. Ldr and nothing the Democrats would want would come to the floor and if it’s with Trump as president, he’ll continue filling judicial vacancies. If it’s a Democrat, he won’t fill vacancies.

They can be lobbied by their constituents, because they actually have to keep them happy to stay in office. Events like AOC ousting Crowley in a primary are rare unicorns. For the most part, they can do whatever they want and get re-elected.

If you want a congresscritter that will actually read their mail when an important bill is coming up for vote, it's better to have someone afraid of losing re-election.
