You don't know for sure if WAZE could have helped in this situation. You are purely speculating.
Wrong. We are speaking from experience. I use WAZE and I don't get unnecessarily stuck in traffic jams.

No, because they are ignorant or don't have cellphones with data plans or their data plans are too small.

This is why trusting just the signs can be useless. If the person updating them is away from the desk, you see old information. If you use anything in addition, you improved your chances.

Sit in traffic because someone is sitting on the crapper, or double check? Your call.

Not a GPS system, but rather the car's infotainment system. If your car is Apple CarPlay or Android Auto compatible, then your car can display some of the content/apps from your phone right on the car's display screen. As of now, I do not believe Apple has allowed WAZE to be part of CarPlay but I do believe Google has allowed or is allowing WAZE to become part of Android Auto.

fiogf49gjkf0d
Two points of reference from drives I took yesterday.

1. At one point, the app informed me as I was driving that it changed my route to a better one though my ETA would remain unchanged.

2. Later in the day, there was a heavy traffic jam due to an overturned vehicle. Waze routed me through a neighborhood paralleling the arterial road I would have used otherwise and avoided at least a half mile of traffic moving at an average speed of 3 MPH. I only found out the reason for the abnormally slow traffic about 10 minutes AFTER I had reached my destination.

So yes, Waze almost certainly would have helped you avoid the construction zone on the BQE.

Well, I downloaded WAZE and tried unsuccessfully to get it to work for a half hour. First I tried it inside my house where my internet connection was working properly and it told me I had to be outdoors to use the app. Then it took a picture of where I was standing and told me to enter my On my way! bed drive which I did. Then it said they will inform me when it was time for me to leave. I was scheduled to,leave in five minutes and it didn't inform me. So I had to start all over again and it said it couldn't connect me to the server. Then I finally just gave up.

I also don't like why your phone must be connected your entire trip and you have to use mobile data. I was also unsure if they can monitor your location even when the app is off which made me uncomfortable. I could not get it to start giving me verbal instructions but at one point was able to see a map and it routed my entire trip along the BQE but at that time I wasn't ready to leave anyway. When I tried again later, it wouldn't work again so I just took Woodhaven and had no problems.

It's nowhere near that complicated.

That's the whole point of it! So it's able to reroute you on the fly, in real time, as traffic conditions change!!!

I never heard of a requirement that it only be used outdoors. At least the initial setup only happens once. As for the leave alert, you don't actually have to use it. If you set a destination and then leave it alone, when you're ready to go, open the app and it asks you if you're still enroute.

As for it monitoring your location when you are offline, if you have an iPhone, you can quit the app by double-clicking the home button and then swiping up on the app. I don't know what to do on Android.

Fuggifiknow! There are thousands of permutations of operating system, device, network provider, and signal strength that could affect performance. I very rarely have any problems with WAZE. Also, you may have touched the wrong buttons. You need to practice with it a bit. Don't use it in your house on wifi. Use it out on the street on cell data.

On newer android, hold the home button and you will get a 3D alt-tab type screen, where you can then hit the x to close any app you want to close.

On all android it can be done the awkward way via the application manager.

Waze doesn't work well (or at all) if your phone's GPS can't pinpoint your location, which is often the case when you are in a building.

Whenever I'm about to drive somewhere, I open Google Maps and check the traffic layer first. I (generally) zoom out so my origin and destination are in the same frame, I make an observation then choose my travel route, it really is a time saver. You would have seen the dark red line and avoided the BQE. You may have even seen that the Van Wyck Expressway was clear (which actually does occur, haha)

WhoA WHOA WHOA. That sounds very unsafe! Do you have your phone set up so that the screen never automatically shuts off, even when you're not using it? And how do you look ahead of where you are without touching the screen? Do you keep it zoomed way out? Does your maps app not snap back to your current location (some do, some don't)? Why would you want to have to manually interpret a traffic map when a navigation application (that takes real-time traffic conditions into account) could do it for you and verbally instruct you on how to proceed?!?!?

Metro is not backed up onto the highway because there is a very long entrance/exit ramp at Metropolitan which does not exist at Wythe. So even though Metro exit traffic is never backed up onto the highway, there are far more card exiting at Metro than at Wythe meaning longer exit times at Metro more often than at Wythe.

Well all I am telling you is the message told me to go outdoors.

And when I did not get an alert to leave and I turned on the app again, I had to start from scratch and renter the trip and then it couldn't get a location. Nothing asked me if I was enroute.

I also installed WAZE on my iPad and didn't open the app for a week. I get a message which said do I still want to allow WAZE to monitor my location which means it has been doing this for the past week. I went into settings and changed "always" to never. But if I want to use it again, I will have to change it back to "always" and remember to change it again when I close the app which is a pain. There is no option to use it fir thus trip only.

I saw that message this morning so now I know what you mean.

Did it have a map of your location? In which case the message is just about getting a more accurate fix. Assuming that it's in the ballpark, it will give you a route.

That is weird. Whenever I quit the app in the middle of a trip, or even save it for later, it always prompts me if I'm still going to wherever I set as the destination.

You can turn off Waze from Background App Refresh.
