I had an uncle who was very religious when he was growing up in Romania in the 1920's but after the Holocaust, he became staunchly anti-religious. He ridiculed every aspect of Judaism and told me more than once that all synagogues should be closed and the rabbis all locked up. I felt sorry for him and humored him. He was otherwise a great guy and I miss him.I never once criticized him for abandoning his observance or for criticizing those who remained observant after the Holocaust. My father never did either. Live and let live. There are enough Gentiles in the world who hate Jews - we don't need to hate each other too. |

It might be interesting for you, but otherwise its a big yawn.Indeed it would be interesting for me. For some of the nutters, well, "a big yawn" is not quite the right phrase to describe four (and counting) pages of angry tantrums about how horrible it is that I'm not celebrating my holidays according to their dictates. You are one of those Jews who hate Judaism so much that you have to put it down at every turn. Aw, and you actually seemed like you might be capable of reason earlier. :( Nope, you're just another one of the crazies who thinks that everyone needs your permission to do anything, and the only reason anyone would ever disagree with you is because they hate you and everything you stand for. It's sad, really, that someone could live their whole lives in that little bubble. I once had a boss like you - the worst self-hating Jew I've ever encountered. He went out of his way to poke fun at the Jewish holidays and at me for observing them. While I can't speak for any bosses you may or may not have had, I can point out the obvious fact that I haven't actually poked fun at any holidays or anyone who observes them. In fact, as my original post pointed out, I do observe Passover so why would I poke fun at people who observe Passover when I'm one of them? The problem is that you have this childish notion that you are the sole arbiter of how Passover must be observed, and you declare that any deviation from your dictates is inherently mocking both you and the holiday itself and serves no other purpose. Again, it's sad that you're so self-centered that you think anyone who disagrees with you does so solely to mock you. I've never understood this. Why should anyone care if someone chooses to be observant? If you're not observant, fine, no problems here. But why would you care if I'm observant, or other people are? EXACTLY! That is exactly true. I choose to observe Passover. That's my decision and it has no impact on anybody else. Why should anybody care? Yet, people who aren't observant, like GP Chris and Chimmy and people who choose to observe in a different way like WMATA and you inevitably throw screaming tantrums anytime I so much as mention my celebrations. I've never understood this. Why would you care that other people observe differently than you do? |

Feel free to read the thread in case I left anyone out. This morning, for breakfast, I ate a bacon, cheese and egg sandwich. A bacon egg and cheese sandwich on Passover? THAT'S ANTISEMITIC!!11eleven Wait, no? Is this not a thing we're doing? Huh, that's odd. How come bacon is antisemitic when I eat it but not when you eat it? Funny how the Butthurt Brigade never managed to come up with an explanation for that. I don't feel the need to post it on a message board to taunt people. Neither do I. Which is why I didn't do it. If a bunch of whiners feel that the mere existence of people who disagree with them is "taunting" then that's their problem, not mine. |

Well, the reason you attack me is because some years ago, we had a debate over immigration policy in which I proved you wrong and you had a screaming meltdown. I figured you'd be mature enough to get over it in a day or two, but it turned out you've spent the last few years fuming about how "mean" it was that I proved you wrong. At this rate, I doubt you'll ever grow up but hey, I can always hope. And you know exactly why you posted it Yep. It was Passover, so I posted a celebratory thread acknowledging the holiday just like someone does for every holiday. I am a Catholic, not very observant, but that's my choice, so I don't really follow many of the tenets. So then by your own argument, you are a self-hating Catholic who openly mocks Catholicism because you despise it that much. After all, according you you, WMATA, and all the other nutters in this thread, merely mentioning that you don't observe in the manner someone else tells you to is "mocking" and "taunting" them. You know, I'd be happy to bring a devout Catholic into this thread to take umbrage at your taunting them by not being observant in the manner they dictate. But I also don't go to a public message board to attempt to antagonize people that do observe... Wow. You just set the record for hypocrisy. You go to a public message board and make an attempt to antagonise devout Catholics, and then claim you would never do such a thing in the same post that you're doing it. ...and write that I had a Cheeseburger on Good Friday for dinner. You know, I have a Catholic aunt who I'm certain ate a cheeseburger on Good Friday at some point. If she posted as much here, would you scream about how her dinner choice was intended for the sole purpose of mocking all Catholics? |

And in such a case that person would/should just arrange to spend Shabbos somewhere else until they can move to a more Shabbos friendly location.
