Olmert even offered to turn over the city's holy places — including some of Judaism's most sacred sites — to an international body that included Jordan and Saudi Arabia. Did Abbas accept? No.... |

That you assume I wouldn't read that article just proves that you haven't understood a single thing I've said since I came here. Unfortunately, your article doesn't really have anything apropos to say about the current situation in that part of the Middle East. It's basically just an article explaining that Hamas is an antisemitic terrorist organisation that wants to destroy Israel— a fact that no one has ever denied. However, it tries to spin this into anti-Palestinian propaganda by conflating Hamas with "Palestinians," which is like conflating the Knesset with "Jews," an offense you'd never tolerate. It also neglects to mention the circumstances that made Hamas what it is today— that they were able to gain support amongst the populace for a time by being the only people offering vital services to Gazans being impoverished by Israeli oppression. |

Come on, you're a lot more reasonable than Chimmy or Gamera. You must know how ridiculous it sounds to say that someone is "promoting peace" with war. Since neither side is "promoting peace," someone who truly opposes wars like me has to "side" with a third party. At the moment, I'm hoping Canada will step up to try and mediate because no one can accuse Canada of being biased, but looking towards the European Union is probably a better bet. |

There was no blockade until 2007.Israel does not indiscriminately shoot at schools, mosques, and hospitals. It occasionally misses its military targets, but it isn't setting out to do so. There is a story of one air force pilot who has flown 17 missions over Gaza and never once fired at his target because of the presence of civilians. When will you understand the difference? If Gaza unilaterally disarmed without a peace agreement with Israel and Hamas lost its power there, you might see improvements in the standard of living of its citizens, like in the West Bank. Facts on the ground don't really interest you though, do they? Israel is not deliberately keeping Gaza impoverished. Gazans brought that upon themselves by electing Hamas to their parliament. I believe that Israel did play a major (and unnecessary) role in escalating to the current round of violence, and I've said as much before, but that doesn't change the fact that if you look at historical events (and you have to go back further than 1967 to understand this), Israel is not the aggressor in this conflict. Israel has offered the Palestinians nearly everything they have wanted, and they turn it down each time. Are you going to tell me that Hamas, an organization committed to Israel's destruction, is promoting peace? |
