It's highly interesting to note that the car that started the trend of the small "cute" girly SUV is moving upwards. Before the RAV's US debut in 1996, there wasn't much in the way of a small car-based SUV with five doors. If Toyota's getting out of this market, I'd presume that they no longer see any growth, for a small carbased SUV. I'm currently borrowing a '99 RAV4 from my aunt, and it's great for hauling stuff around or carting around one or two ankle biters, but the back seat sucks for adults of any height.* Plus, for a frigging 4 cyl car with 125hp, the fuel economy blows and it handles poorly compared to my Saturn.e also want big torque-y engines, notwithstanding the fact that America's speed limits are generally lower than Europe's (albeit higher than Japan's). It's all about that 0-60 time. Especially here in the Northeast where our ramps are compromised by outdated designs. I still don't understand the desire for the shitty soft rides and oversized cars. My dad has a mid-90s Lincoln Town Car, and while he loves the soft smooth ride as he's driving, I hate it since I feel that the car is constantly skidding no matter what the conditions. Besides, most American roads are designed to be long straightaways which de-emphasize the need for handling. I cannot explain why this fetish exists Soccer Dads who are too ashamed to drive a minivan around. Plus, minivans suck at towing. *=Yeah, it's a chix car. I still haven't seen one guy who drives one here on LI or Queens. |
