The towns haven’t existed for over 120 years. But they used to and the “postal cities” largely correspond to them with that one exception. I want to know why. “114xx” almost perfectly corresponds to the old Town of Jamaica and 111xx to the City of Long Island City.

And there are towns (outside of Long Island) that are small and do not have multiple hamlets and villages inside.
