Many people say "a town like Sayville", or fill in a blank, when they mean a location, and really mean a Hamlet, not a Town. A Town is a distinct entity, that comprises many hamlets and villages, the town of Islip, the Town of Babylon, the Town of Oyster Bay, and so forth. And to further confuse things, these towns often have hamlets or villages with the same name within them.....Islip the xip code, the hamlet of Brookhaven, the hamlet of riverhead, and so forth....not to be confused with the vast multi hamlet Town of the same names |
