Yeah, meant Van Gelder. Musicians in studios spend a LONG time redoing stuff and both musicians and engineers get tired after a 14 hour recording session. When you downbeat into the key of blatt, it's time to take five. Even if that's hours before picking up on it again.Playing horn is hard. I never could get that together myself. Lips get tired, bad notes happen. But the very last thing you want to do is keep it, then mix it down. That's what shouldn't have happened. That session should have never made it to vinyl, should have been redone. |
