There's a book about the history of the Impulse label by Ashley Kahn. Maybe you've seen it? Blue Mitchell I've only heard a little of - he recorded during the 60s a lot with Horace Silver if I remember correctly. Azar lawrence - woo hoo!!!! What an intense player!!! Saw him with McCoy Tyner in '73 or '74 in Boston - played very much like mid 60's Coltrane when I saw him. He has released an album sometime within the last year or so - I read about it but haven't heard it. |
