The bike rack at 44th/5th was nearly empty a few times. If the system had been accepting one-time rentals (apparently it won't do that until early June) I would have certainly used one to run some errands.I did have a chance to ride one that a friend had taken out -- it feels like a reasonable bike, but I think it only has 3 speeds. That may not be a problem in flat Manhattan, but if the program ever expands more broadly (especially to upper Manhattan and the Bx) they may need bikes with a bit more range. On the negative side, I was in a cab in slow traffic coming north on 6th Ave and there was some knucklehead riding a Citibike the against the flow of traffic. I'll be back again briefly next week and hopefully will be able to tool around on one a bit. |
