I mean just because you teach someone how to drive doesn't mean they would follow it. I mean look at all the other drivers that act like they shouldn't have a licence and yet somehow they passed. I mean it was once said that drivers in New York weren't the patiant drivers, something I've seen first hand twice in the last two weeks.Also there is a video of a Atlantic Express driver on youtube form a few years ago driving dangerously, and Atlantic Express use to trump that they were the best and most professional company out there. So it just goes to show that just because someone is trained in a way to do something doesn't mean they will follow the way they were trained. |

Granted its not safe, but it seems most drivers do this..including MTA. Why didn't you mention that as well? |

He sees it: the training MTA gave the drivers is lights years better than what NICE gives, and it is showing it in more ways than this video.The money Magnano is saving today by having NICE will bite the county in the ass in the long term, except the working poor are low on the political constituency totem pole. |

Most of the complaints seem to be based on the bus driver exiting the curb lane without yielding to traffic. The most flagrant violation, however, is the last one with the N21 swerving to the left of drivers in the left lane approaching South Middle Neck Road, Great Neck.--- The video was posted only yesterday. Does a date-and-time stamp appear on the video? It would be interesting to learn if NICE management reacts at all. --- Isn't there some U.S. city that requires other drivers to yield to transit buses leaving a bus stop? I recall seeing some such ordinance pasted on the rear of the buses in some city. --- Of course, earlier in the clip, the curb lane has no parking in rush hour on Northern Blvd. |

I concur, the MTA had much better driver training and maintanance as well. There's so many breakdowns too, causing many runs to be missed. Riders are leaving the system, somewhere I read in Newsday NICE now has bdaily ridership of just 60,000 a day, that's almost half of the 101,000 riders it had in 2011 with MTA. And it is costing the county money, revenues are down across the board (in part due to less revenue from NICE fares & less ppl coming from Queens to shop), and Mangano is going to raise taxes as a result. Ed Mangano has done significant damage to this county, perhaps more than anyone else who has sat in the Mineola Executive seat. It would have been far cheaper to pay the MTA their reasonable subsidy and have ridership continue to grow, then going backwards in the completely wrong direction we are in now. It's just going to be a vicious cycle of service cuts and declining ridership. |

I'm not condoning this driver's aggressive beahvior, but I will say that it's easy to criticize bus drivers if you haven't spent time behind the wheel of a bus. Very few motorists will yield and allow a bus to merge into traffic - most in fact will speed up and cut you off even if you have the right-of-way. |

NJ TRANSIT buses all have Yield decals on the left rear of the buses indicating the state law about yielding to buses pulling away from stops however some operators take advantage of that law and just pull out. Some pull out without even signalling. That wasn't the way that they were trained but we all know that unfortunately not all bus drivers are professional. |

NICE cant afford to fire any drivers, they already dont have enough to make score each day so many runs go missing. Well thats true, many motorists give buses very little respect. Its one thing what happened in the beginning of the video, but the bus driver really crossed the line by cutting off that car twice. What if the driver had a gun instead of a camera? You don't mess with road rage, bus drivers should be NON-CONFRONTATIONAL when it comes to situations with other motorists on the road. Since NICE has taken over I've seen more verbal disputes between drivers and bus operators, its only a matter of time before it gets physical. |

The whole article....WOODBURY - A Nassau Inter-County Express bus driver has been suspended for being aggressive toward other motorists in Great Neck. Charles Liang, of Queens, says he captured Dash Cam video of a NICE bus driver repeatedly cutting him off on Northern Boulevard and driving aggressively last week. Liang says he was so concerned about the incident that he sent the video to Nassau County officials as well as NICE. A NICE spokesman told News 12 Long Island that they have conducted an investigation, and as a result, the driver has been suspended. He will have to clear retraining and evaluation before getting back on the road. |

The problem in this matter as the MTA is a public angency while NICE is run by a company.While the driver in this case probably should be serverly suspended, if not probably fired. The MTA would be firing the driver, not only for the offence, but because it needs the publics trust and that it cares about their riders and that they wouldn't put them at risk. While Veolia needs to do the latter as well, they can't just go around firing people because it would not only cause high turn over where runs may go missing, but there is also the effect such firings for even minor offences could cause on morale of the other drivers and also on recuritment. I mean I doubt there are many people who would want to work for a company that would fire you over one little mistake. I mean if a person was concertrating to hard on not making a mistake then they may end up making a mistake. |
