I concur, the MTA had much better driver training and maintanance as well. There's so many breakdowns too, causing many runs to be missed. Riders are leaving the system, somewhere I read in Newsday NICE now has bdaily ridership of just 60,000 a day, that's almost half of the 101,000 riders it had in 2011 with MTA. And it is costing the county money, revenues are down across the board (in part due to less revenue from NICE fares & less ppl coming from Queens to shop), and Mangano is going to raise taxes as a result. Ed Mangano has done significant damage to this county, perhaps more than anyone else who has sat in the Mineola Executive seat. It would have been far cheaper to pay the MTA their reasonable subsidy and have ridership continue to grow, then going backwards in the completely wrong direction we are in now. It's just going to be a vicious cycle of service cuts and declining ridership. |
