Well maybe they can get away with parking there. NOT because they are police officers but because isn't that the LAST stop of the M1 and M6? I think so unless if it's around the corner. Most of the time, B/Os drop off the passengers before crossing Whitehall St (In front of the SI Ferry Terminal).

They park there because cops park wherever the hell the feel like parking all the time, including their private cars with their placards in the windshield. As a transit can I park at a bus stop and go about my business? HELL NO!

When they park at a bus stop, the Americans with Disabilities Act is being violated by them THE LAW ENFORCERS, because the bus can't get into the bus stop to pick up wheelchair customers and others who would have a hard time getting in and out of the bus when it has to stop in the middle of the street.

You are absolutely correct. They indeed park any and everywhere they want. I think it sucks because these are the people (and the TEA) who are supposed to enforce the regulations, yet they routinely voilate all types of parking regulations. That's some example they're setting. Anyone who doubts this simply need to walk past any NYPD precinct and they can see many NYPD vehcile and NYPD employee's personal vehicle illegally parked. It sucks more becuase the city goes out of it's way to ticket anyone else.

No, I don't see that happening. I think the bosses need to hold those who park their personal and city-owned vehicles accountable.

In other cities, you can occasionally find a municipal-owned vehicle parked at an expired meter and maybe a no parking area, but not in bus stops, on sidewalks, blocking hydrants and so on.

Call 311 and file a complaint. They will have the vehicle logged into the system. They mayor will have to act.

As for blocking bus stops, all mta buses should have camera's to enforce the bus lanes and bus stops It would speed bus service and raise some money

That's their "show of force" crap. When they take a bunch of broken down RMPs from various precincts around the city (look closely, you'll notice every car is from a different precinct) and just park them where ever they please. Happens in mid-town almost daily. Blocked bus lanes, bus stops, fire hydrants, wherever they can park.

It's supposed to scare away the terrorists. LOL.

Also the Q64 stop heading towards 164th St by the 107th is pretty much a "hidden" stop

Although your dad was technically illegal, I do understand your point. It's just another example of how the city is really more interested in the revenue and why NYC motorists have so much contempt for the authorities. They preach about how it's necessary to ticket and/or tow vehicles in the name of keeping traffic flowing safely. I have no problem with this concept. The problem is that they say this, but as we all know at any given time and place (within NYC) you can find city-owned vehicles illegally parked.

For one minute, it wasn't like he was going to park there.

Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm........

Standing is standing. Parking is parking. You can't justify standing in a no standing zone by saying that you weren't going to park there. That's irrelevant, and really really stupid. The zone is no standing. Parking has nothing to do with it.

My mom was walking towards him.

Stopping is allowed. But not standing. He shouldn't have stopped until your mom was at the curb, ready to get in. Then it would have just been stopping, AFAIK.

And traffic didn't allow him to 'double park'.

Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.......

Double parking is never allowed.

No space at the curb [plus the other street was one way, so can't turn at the corner] and it still would've meant blocking a lane of traffic [or the other street at the intersection]. The only 'open space' was the bus stop.

Thank you. Now granted, yes I understand what he did was illegal, but there was no other places to stop at as every 'square inch' of the block and surrounding ones were occupied. Plus if the traffic cop were nice he would've let my dad off with a warning, but since he was probably trying to get his quotas, he didn't 'blink an eye' in handing out the ticket and that's why I felt that cop was being a prick.
Question, which is worse: blocking a fire hydrant or a bus stop? Or both are the same?

yeah... they act tough in places they can get away with it, but others, they know they aren't going to risk their life for a ticket.

Sounds about right. I don't have the definitions in front of me. But Grand Concourse's fathered stopped for longer than that, as his mother was only walking towards the car, and that was after a whole minute of being stopped. So it was clearly standing. Plus he was potentially inconveniencing 40 or more people on a possible arriving bus.
