I'll say that front shot looks pretty scary to me; like something from beyond the planet. They used to call our Grumman 870's "Darth Vader" buses back in the day; they should see this one! Overall, the color and the lines of this bus look nice. jrc |

However, the operational savings by having shorter running times would more than offset a few fare evaders. Plus, those that would happen to successfully cheat the system will have to pay eventually unless that is the only route they ever use. If they are connecting to the subway or another route that doesn't have the third door, they'll have to pay to ride....It all catches up to them in the end, whether it's finally getting caught or having to pay to continue on. |

This is the best looking new transit vehicle we've seen in recent years. Finally the need for a third door on artics seems to have been recognized. It would also be great to have rear windows again on buses, having given up this feature nearly thirty years ago when the Grummans and RTSs began arriving! |

Sure it could, it would work perfectly in the SBS application, being that you need as many doors as possible for boarding/alighting without paying on board the bus, would make things alot faster, which means decreased dwell times at all SBS stops, which means a faster ride overall. In terms of regular applications, however, it would be a little more difficult to deter fare evasion, unless each door was driver-controlled independently of each other, as per Westchester Bee-Line's artics versus a single door control as on NYCT's artics. It can work, though...My two cents, Dr. C |

At the moment the F and LX run a mix of 40 foot NOVA LFSes and RTSes. The L, C, REXB, and REXL are the other two routes which never see the D60LFs during normal semester schedules (the A, B, H, and EE all use or are wholly composed of D60LFs). During exam schedules and (IIRC) summer and winter semesters the L runs artics as the counterclockwise College Ave-Livingston-Busch line while the A handles the clockwise direction. The C is a parking lot shittle (or "Commuter Express" on Busch which operates with just one bus for the whole day and tends to use the worst RTS possible). The REXL and REXB are true express runs from Busch and Livingston campuses to Cook/Douglass, and really just need shorter headways rather than larger vehicles. The LX tends to get more crowded than the L, mostly owing to the perception that it is faster because of its 'express' run on Rt18, but dwell times at Scott Hall, the SAC, and Beck Hall can make the LX a very long ride. Once the LX stops running at 7:00pm or so the L can become an extremely crowded bus, especially when there are basketball games at the RAC. The F is generally not as crowded as its counterpart the EE, also perhaps due to the perception that the express run on 18 from College Ave to Cook/Douglass makes for a faster ride. But on the College Ave bound leg they follow nearly identical routes up to the Train Station until 8pm, when they follow the exact same route. It is common to see a College Ave bound F bus using an RTS or LFS packed to the gills followed a minute or two later by a College Ave-bound EE using a D60LF with a dozen passengers on it. Despite Nextbus displays to tell them a larger EE bus is just a minute behind the crowded F, kids at College Hall will still pack onto that F bus like it's the last bus of the day. Even if the F doesn't justify artics on the Cook/Douglass bound leg, it should be using them for the College Ave bound leg just to balance out with the EE's D60LFs. Shorter headways would also help the F, but I'd settle for higher capacity just to eliminate the mess an F leading an EE creates. |

The center door's placement some 20 feet closer to the operator makes it more likely the driver will notice someone boarding at that door illegally than at the rearmost door. Thus it's more fair to say the increase in fare evasion could be expected to be on the order of half again or so. But then maybe it's about time to get rid of the driver being responsible for babysitting the passengers and go to a proof of payment system on most bus lines. It's safer and far more effective than sticking with an outdated arrangement which requires the driver to multitask and allows a fare beating passenger a free ride once they're on the bus. |

True, this Nova artic is clearly derived from the 40' NovaLF which has been around for a while, although a rare sight in NYC. (I think the improvement of the front headlight arrangement is notable.)Of course appearance is always a subjective matter, but I think this Nova has much more visual appeal than the NF artics in high or low floor or an artic based on the Orion7NG. |

I don't understand how the driver can't monitor two rears doors as well, or at least almost as well, as he monitors one rear door today. The additional door is closer to the front of the bus.And besides, look at how this issue is dealt with today. I've seen people enter through the rear doors of buses and nothing happened. What prevents more people from doing it? I just don't see any super effective back door anti-fare-evasion method in place today that would be severely compromised by adding another rear door. |

Higher capacity egress. Encourages more people to move back and to spread out, since they will be close to a door no matter where they stand. Is this 20 questions? No, we're still on the very first question. 1 for entering and 1 for exiting. Two for exiting is often better than just one. See above. That IS one of the main reasons buses have more than one rear door... |
