I just ran out to the St. George/Tompkinsville area, with no luck at all. All is saw was a TMC on the S61, Novas on the S44 and the rest were all O5s.

The weekend is actually the best day to hunt for them because the buses are on-time and predictable unlike during weekdays.

Ok so lets say that they do renumbered the 4300 Series MCIs to accomodate the Orion 07.501 NexGen HEVs. Where can they put them? Well here is what number series are available...

1110-1895 (Possibly, but wouldn't make too much sense)

2211-2704 (The best possible option, It could accomodate the 30 4300s and the new order)

2925-2999 (Could put the 30 buses here, make them 2970-2999, keeping them with thier siblings)

3475-3499 (Won't Fit)

4650-4899 (Again, Possibly, but wouldn't make sense)

5770-5897 (A good guess for the slated Artics at this point)

6906-7147 (Another Possibility)

7214-7559 (Yet Another Possibility, but you hit a wall here with the rogue Classics that are still on the roster but are in storage)

7820-7999 (Same Issue as the previous numbers)

8705-8749 (Just, No!)

Honestly the whole fleet needs to go through a serious renumbering, there is too many gaps and unnecessary spaces. Here is one way to renumber the fleet to make it work (This is baring the retirements of the 1990-91 TMCs and the 1993 Orion Vs)...

What I would leave alone:
1993 TMC RTS-06
#8401-8566

1994 TMC RTS-06
#8600-8704

1994-96 Orion Vs
#400-680

1996-98 NovaBUS RTS-06
#8750-9699

1997-98 New Flyer D60HFs
#1000-1109

1999 NovaBUS RTS
#4900-5249

1999-2003 New Flyer D60HF
#5250-5769

What I would change:
1994 TMC RTS-06
Old #1172-1190, 1192-1196, 5898-5902, 5904-5937, 5988-5999, 7148-7149, 7174-7213, 9700-9795
New #8568-8599 and 8705-8744
(Only 73 Remain)

1994 Orion V CNG
Old #317
New #400

1997 Orion Vs
Old #5938-5987
New #350-399

1997-99 MCI DL3 Cruiser
Old #1860-2139
New #1110-1389

1998-2000 New Flyer C40LFs
Old #800-989
New #9800-9989

1998-99 Orion V CNGs
Old #709-751, 7214-7285, 8568-8581, 9827-9999
New #681-982

1999 Orion V
Old #6000-6349
New #100-349

2000-01 MCI D4500
Old #2705-2924, 2140-2209, 7423-7428
New #1390-1684

2002-04 Orion VII CNGs
Old #7560-7819
New #8000-8259

2003-07 Orion VII Hybrids
Old #6365-6905, 3500-3783
New #6000-6825

2005-07 MCI D4500CL Cruisers
Old #3000-3474, 4300-4329
New #1685-2189

Ok so under my new numbering scheme that would leave PLENTY of room for the NGs which could be numbered 6826-7675. The New MCIs could be numbered 2190-2315. And would leave a host of numbers ungapped for new orders such as artics. Of course logical, but where is the logic in the MTA?

Regards,
Trevor

There have been some problems wit the Toronto buses which involved the grounding of the problem units, however they are being taken care of. Not exactly sure of te current status, but we are still receiving new buses, so I take that as a good sign.

How about No! That is a untrue and bias statement. The Hybrids pound the M60 day in and day out climbing the RFK Bridge (Triboro Bridge) and carrying breakneck loads with luggage. They do the ultra long M1 from Harlem-146th St to South Ferry.

So what is the S53? Nothing! The Hybrids would work just fine on the S53.

They demo's passed the test on the Q113 which is WAAAAAAY more brutal than the S53. The 825 units already on the property for the most part are doing just fine.

The NG isn't that much different from the Original, the NG changes are way more cosmetic than mechanical. Though there is mechanical differences, its minor compared to the cosmetic changes.

The A/Cs are doing alright so far on the local buses. I rode 5 different buses (4 O5s and 1 Nova) today and they all had good A/C. When it gets extremely hot like last week though, they aren't as reliable.

I'm still clueless over the maintenance bay thing as well. They have the same exact number but it seems that when they changed the SI Division management, they found better ways to keep the fleet in good condition now with those same bays.

Allegedly, 30% of the Staten Island local bus fleet has no air conditioning. This is according to a driver. While he is far from being one of my pals, he knows more than he doesn't know about his depot.

If what he says is correct, then I would venture to say that SI's maintenance improvements are still inadequate to service the fleet. It would also reinforce my opinion that they do not have the resources to break in the NGs.

The last time I saw Ulmer Park get REALLY new buses was back in 1999-2000. NovaBus RTS-06 #5075-5099 came to Ulmer Park (after a short stay at Gun Hill). Speaking of short stay, after Ulmer Park had those buses, they went to Flatbush to join NovaBus RTS-06 #5100-5124.

The last time I saw Flatbush get REALLY new buses was back in 1997 when NovaBus RTS-06 #9382-9443 came to Flatbush. I could have sworn NovaBus RTS-06 #9382-9383 debuted at Queens Village because I saw NovaBus RTS-06 #9383 on the Q36...but whatever.

Thanks for answering a question I was about to post!! I saw 3800 on the Gowannus Expressway, SI-bound at about 12:30 yesterday afternoon. I wondered what kind of bus it was- never saw one like it. But since it's an SI local, I also wonder what it was doing up there (North of 38th Street)? Maybe it tried to escape SI and was being brought back?

I've grown attached to those Novas because Yukon have been treating them so well. I don't want to see them go.

What about "factory new?" I think the answer was the 1999 RTS's. But then due to a union vs. management dispute in regards to how much $$$ for break in qualification on the wheelchair lifts, UP's were transfered to FLAT.

I mean factory new. That hasn't happened for years. Every other depot in the Brooklyn Division (with the exception of FLA & pre GA) has. And since UP has clearance issues in the depot, why can't they store them outdoors like they do with their MCI's ? Speaking of MCI's, how does UP peform maintenance on their fleet ?

so far so good on maintence. Especially the 1900's they recently recieved from YUK. I live and work closer to GA buses but still see Ulmer Park buses and they look good.

But out with the old, and IN WITH THE NEW! It will be ironic seeing SI Division with a large brand new local bus order for the first time in 9 years.

Eventually, to go with our current 3- and 4-digit fleet# families, a new 5-digit fleet# family beginning with 10000 will have to be introduced to avoid number clashing.

What would've made perfect sense, would have been to #4300-4329, 2206-2235. Then the new order could've been 2236-2361. But Nooooooo!

Actually, from what I have heard, something similar IS going to happen, and the 43xx MCIs are not keeping their numbers. Exactly where they will end up is not yet known. (This would not be the first time an active fleet has been renumbered to make room for an order---Flxible New Looks in the way of the 1988 TMC order were renumbered into the 7000s.

No Razzle-Dazzle is needed. :-)

No need...so long as paratransit is kept separate from the MTA numbering...and keep in mind what is preventing five digits---the TRUNKED RADIO, not the maintenance system.

Also, 4300-4329 will be renumbered. Exactly where has not been released...but I'm suspecting the initial 4 will become a 2...with the D4500CTs having the initial 4 also being replaced with 2, or starting at 2400 and proceeding from there.

Not only the Flxible 111CC-D51 (4000-4202, 4600-4727), but also the GMC T6H-5305A (4300-4499) and T6H-5309A (4800-4919) which were numbered in the 6500 and 6600 series.

Good question on the maintenance there, but I can tell you this they have ex-Yukon and ex-Castleton equipment and they now look fantastic compared to when they first arrived to UP.

I don't think the numbering matters anymore, since the MTA is shifting buses around between the 'MTA Bus' properties and the 'NYC Bus' properties.

There may be some true to that. Asked about it on the NYC Transit forums and apparently: KB MAY BE receiving 110 Next Generation Buses by Winter 08 (Nov or Dec). We'll know for sure by the end of the summer, but hopefully this is true.

I also want those 1999 OrionV's from Castleton to come to La Guardia, anything is better than those ex-NYCT buses they have.

This will give me a reason to take the Q39 again.
