Um, what other significant revenue sources do they have where they have any control over that doesn't involve taking money from your pocket? The whole point of the new taxes last year was to make up for the shortfall in the existing taxes. But then both the existing and new tax revenues came in under estimates. So it's not like the MTA had any control over that.I just don't see what you want them to do any differently. It is Albany who made these taxes. The problem is up there. Not with the MTA. |

Right, so you use a good or service and pay sales tax, that tax goes to Albany and your local government. Even if you don't pay sales tax, that company gets revenue which is taxed via income tax. If their taxes increase they charge you more to pay for the tax.But that's only taxes, lets not forget the numerous business licenses, permits, vehicle registrations, etc they have to pay for. Whatever Albany does it trickles right down into YOUR pocket. |

I ran a thread on that subject a few weeks ago & I still shake my head at the money that is lost. Like to have NY1 latch on to that story!!Leave it to the biased media to crucify the workers that take advantage of existing collective bargaining aggrements to make the justified overtime. Sure, there are abuses, Im sure no one here is naive enough to believe there is'int, but to broad brush the worker to give the implication that the o/t is not justified & a case of the workers ripping off the system is just plain wrong. Lets not forget that any o/t slips that get approved by payroll has to be signed off by managment. |

I think the real issue is that if a business gives over time, that's their business, but government agencies gets their money from the tax payers and if they don't feel they have enough they gouge the public more.Imagine if you want a new car and your income wouldn't support it, and you could just give yourself a raise by ransacking the payroll department funds. That's what the govt and govt agencies do. That's why people are pissed. They don't do much to do more with less, they simply stick an extra tentacle into your pocket. That's why the public gets pissed. They don't care about all the other stuff behinds the scenes, they see that more and more of their money is taken and splurged. |

Albany can take over the MTA any time they want, maybe they should. Then give back the different parts to the people to run, or auction it off as a private enterprise.Local Governments can opt to take back control of the parts that by legacy belong to the people. The MTA is nothing but a government run contractor working for the state. The MTA is also a terrific scapegoat for the elected officals who are supposed to represent the people. The whole system, set up by the politicos, runs just the way they want it to run. Those who manage the MTA understand they are scapegoats and they are in a no win, never break even, keep on trucking situation. By the end of the year, I maybe running a train on regular basis again. They Just saved $6000 and made two happy workers. |

I could careless if I ever worked overtime. MTA should have enough employees in order to prevent paying OT. I'm in favor of not running the service if you don't have the money or employees.I don't know the answer for the situation, but I can ensure you it's not my fault. I just like working with trains and I do it every working day. Michael |

If the ta had its way and the union would allow parttimers, there wouldn't be any problem with overtime. untill the contact is changed there will be overtime to this level, btw the shuttle buses are bugeted thru the capital budget. |
