At least they're paying some attention to the original design. I agree about the shame of letting the original station fall. I did catch the Cranford Shuttle from that station around 1973.

Yep. It doesn't look nearly as complicated when you're in it. What's going on is that there are carpool lanes on each freeway and they allow people to go from carpool lane to carpool lane without having to get stuck with the regular traffic. The regular traffic has traffic lights on their ramps that limit the amount of traffic at rush hour.

They really are stabbing the public. Ridiculously high costs to build all of this, mostly on existing track too. Never mind duplication, since they had to build all new service facilities for the trolleys.

Central Tokyo cannot afford to build a junction like that, so they built a four-story loop the size of baseball stadium at a former trolley and bus depot. It opened this March.

Close up from last year, still under construction.

Original rendering.

It looks like this from ground level. Two loops are underground while the other two above ground.

This page has more photos of the construction and a photo of a regular junction in Japan.

One more expressway is supposed to connect to this junction in the near future.

Interesting! I don't think that I like it as a freeway design but it is creative and benefits the neighbors by limiting noise and providing green space.

I used to not be interested in Japan, not the more that I hear the more that I like. It's replacing Europe as the foreign destination that I'd most like to see.

The sad thing though, is that as predicted by some analysts before even construction, the 40kph(25mph) restriction in the loops and the single lane access (although two-lane wide) from one direction is already creating congestion. But those articles may have been written by NIMBY supporters. I emailed a long time friend who's now a limo/livery driver in Tokyo and its greater area. Let's see what he has to say.

Technically, that's not fare evasion. You were prepared to pay, they did not collect it as directed. Now, if I hand my light rail ticket with 30 minutes left before the validation expires to someone who got on the train with no ticket whatsoever, that's fare evasion.

I don't know what the rule is "technically" for reusing a ticket that wasn't punched, but I imagine that you are correct. Morally the difference between the two is negligible. One person was looking to take a free ride and the other took advantage of being able to do the same when given the opportunity. Different, but not that different.
