From a previous message: "There probably isn't much demand for such a transfer, and any new construction must comply with the ADA (as well as bringing the entire station complex into compliance)."The "demand" issue is an interesting one. There probably is not enough demand by the respective local communities translated to the local political leadership transferred up the stream to the MTA brass. For example, if the folk who could benefit by this transfer do not speak up, then it is easy for those in charge to say, "few have expressed a concern". At the same time with budget issues a major concern, it is reasonable to try to limit the amount of "new initiatives". In another view - transit fans and others have talked about such a transfer for years. Mike |

Tall buildings going up is not the only sign that a neighborhood is booming. When housing projects got put up in neighborhoods around the city 50-60 years go (including the Lillian Wald Houses on Avenue D), were those neighborhoods booming? Of course not!I don't believe you. Your word is not good enough. I trust my own eyes way more than what you post on this message board. I don't care if you live the neighborhood or halfway around the world. You talk about proving that the V train is needed far more at 2nd Avenue and Houston Street than it is in Ridgewood/Middle Village or Park Slope/Kensington. You haven't proven a damn thing about that. There is only one thing that you've proven since you started trolling this message board - that the only area that counts is yours and the rest of the city can go to hell as far as you're concerned. Well, why don't you lead the way there? |

Just to let you know, the MTA doesn't give a damn about the East Village. Look at service and passenger loads on the M14, look how the M21 is treated, and how the M15 isn't a SBS operation at the moment. Does that tell you anything about how bad the TA decides to treat the East Village? |

Bx12 is the test line for SBS and even that line isn't perfect along with some people still not paying, and that's a 'crosstown line'*.Also SBS is more ideal using artics with 3 doors over 2. There's not enough of those 3-door buses to cover just the Bx12 SBS, let alone the M15. *where it doesn't matter if people pays as they are likely going to transfer to another line: bus or train. |

I'll retract my prior statement the day the track connection between the 6th Avenue and Nassau lines is completely severed. I'm just sick of this whole M-V combo. It gives a couple of neighborhoods a chance to screw over an area that has to deal with buses on a daily basis. It can be compared to sending the J down Brighton when Brighton residents want Midtown, not Lower Manhattan. |

What about everyone in East/NE/SE Queens that is forced to sit on buses for at the very least 20 mins just to hit a terminal train station? I'm pretty sure in the time it would take you to walk from your house to your nearest station, I wouldn't be a quarter of the way to the E or F on the bus from my house. If the bus service by you is that bad write the TA a letter, talk to some politicians or just move instead of just ranting here. Out of curiosity, how many times have you been on/seen a SRO V after B'way Lafayette? On occasion I've seen that. In some cases people get off the V at Broadway-Lafayette just to avoid the guess the platform game at 2nd Avenue. You act like your the only one that lives in a neighborhood that has to rely heavily on buses. Try telling that to those who live along the FDR drive from Delancey to 10th Streets. There are dependent on buses just as I am. In addition, ask anybody that lives in Baruch Houses and Masaryk Towers how they feel by being forced to take the M14 on a daily basis. If you haven't looked at bus ridership statistics, the M14 is far more busier than any of the bus lines that serves most pars of Queens. Does that tell you something? And please explain to me how sending the J down Brighton is the same as the M-V combo... Its called making a comparision. Almost everybody does it once a week. |

That is such a poor comparison. 2nd Avenue will still have access to Midtown with the F. The V is superfluous there. The only reason the V runs to 2nd is because without sending it to the Eastern Division there's no other place to terminate it. |

You trying to tell me you've seen fully packed Vs leaving for 2nd Av? Jamaica-179 & Jamaica Center have higher ridership and even in the middle of rush hour trains are infrequently SRO pulling into those stops. If you plan on making comparisons, make a valid one. Sending the J via Brighton wouldn't improve upon that corridor or make better use of the J. The V for its entirety duplicates other lines and 2 AV was literally the only place they could turn it, the M combo makes it useful by providing a Midtown connection from the Eastern Div. I'm not discussing ridership on the M14, I'm saying that neighborhood is nowhere near as reliant on buses. You can make it to a train station walking and theres the M8,M9,M14A/D and M21. In comparison I have all of the Q30(20 min walk) Q43 (10 min walk), Q46 and Q79 (miserable headways) just to get to a train or LIRR. |

You come over here to Myrtle-Wyckoff, and then you'll get your V back. I'll take your place in Manhattan, and be able to get to almost any work place (subway terminal) in less than an hour, and not be limited to the North. I could go back to the South (CI) and not have the headache traveling anymore. I remember waiting for the F to get to Essex, and the V's would come, and I was still only half way home. Sure wish I could have lived there, because whenever the F would come, I would be home in minutes. I could go back and forth to the A Div. for more variety. And then off duty, just a few minutes to Midtown.Living anywhere in Manhattan would be a privilege, even without the V. It's still very central. |
