Posted by Michael549 on Sun Feb 7 11:44:24 2010, in response to Re: Essex-Delancey Station, posted by Wallyhorse on Fri Feb 5 16:59:56 2010. Wallyhorse - I know (and maybe everybody knows) that you are an enthusiatic supporter of the M-V combination, you have stated your reasons several times. To me that is fine. The M/V route is not the particular point of this message. However the MTA's cuts, service changes and service eliminations that the MTA is making will affect other folks, and some folks in a heavy way. There is no "spin" that one can put on this to make it pleasant, that is a basic fact - acknowledge it. I said before in message that might have been passed over, that folks will be angry with the MTA for the various service changes, service cuts and service eliminations. Folks have a right to their anger, they do not have to like, support or be mollified by what the MTA is doing. To me at least, it makes no logical sense when talking to a person who knows that they are going to suffer by a service change, or cut or service elimination - to promote the benefits of one of the service changes. Even if that change benefits other folk, but not the one or ones you are talking to. To keep trying to convince a person who feels that they will suffer under the MTA's service cuts, changes and eliminations - "well that other folk will benefit" - "so you should be happy". Besides being NOT LOGICAL, does not respond to their feelings, and in fact makes the discussion un-productive with name-calling and other negative stuff. As I said before - when the G-train route was shortened, when the F-train begain to travel via 63rd Street, when the direct Sixth Avenue service stopped (B-train) on weekends --- plenty of folks expressed their displeasure. They were not happy, and they have a right to express that! It costs nothing to acknowledge that plenty of folks will be upset or angry about the MTA's service cuts, changes and eliminations, it is not a sign of dishonor to do so. In fact it is a sign of maturity to understand and acknowledge that some folks will not benefit from something that you heartily propose, and in fact may have a harder situation because of your ideas. Stepping off my soapbox. Mike |

Posted by Broadway Lion on Sun Feb 7 11:53:24 2010, in response to Re: Essex-Delancey Station, posted by 33rd Street on Sat Feb 6 16:56:27 2010. Look.Everybody knows that bridges are slow. Ergo, if they are slow they are off schedule. Ergo, if they are off schedule the whole world will be off schedule. Furthermore, Everybody knows that TUNNELS are better than Bridges. Everybody knows that Tunnels are FASTER than Bridges Ergo, it is easier to keep schedules through tunnels Ergo, all the trains would always run on time if they all ran through tunnels. THEREFORE, since EVERYBIDY knows this, it makes perfect sense that people would rather ride through the Montegue Tunnel instead of going over the Manhattan Bridge. And everybody else would rather go through the Rutgers tunnel than to go over the Manhattan Bridge. Where *are* these people, the LION is hungry and wants a mid-morning snack. ROAR |

Posted by Wallyhorse on Sun Feb 7 12:09:50 2010, in response to Re: Essex-Delancey Station, posted by Michael549 on Sun Feb 7 11:44:24 2010. Mike:I realize where you're coming from, but I'm looking at the big picture here. There is a reason I mentioned this as much as I have (along with others), and that is the fact the benefits outweight the negatives by a LOT. As I also noted, I know where 33rd Street is coming from, however, as I used to have that back in the '80s with the 6 (4 overnights) at 77th/Lex being the lone train I could take. That's why I had little sympathy for 33rd Street's situation as I had the same deal with the 6 for many years that he had with the F in the pre-V days. |

Take a stand on THIS issue because of how strongly you believe it will affect you and riders from your neighborhood. |
