Posted by Wallyhorse on Thu Feb 4 01:53:54 2010, in response to Re: Essex-Delancey Station, posted by 33rd Street on Wed Feb 3 23:34:21 2010. Because you don't WANT to believe it:If you used common sense, you would realize the former M and most J riders won't be clogging the F at Delancey once the new V starts (as they'll either stay on the V or make a same platform transfer to the V at Essex). Lose those riders, and suddenly you have considerably more room at 2nd Avenue when the F arrives there. If you weren't so upset about losing YOUR one-seat ride on the V where you didn't have to stand you would realize this. |

If you did, you would realize the new V train will take serious pressure off the F train, leading to a much-less crowded F train when it gets to 2nd Avenue. Where do you think the crowds for the F come from? While not all of it for sure, a good chunk of it currently gets on at Essex-Delancey, which will end when the new V train starts since most of those will either stay on the V or make a transfer to the V at Essex. |

It would be interesting if more people preferred lower Manhattan to midtown, but, being made aware of the possibility for midtown service, then demanded it on weekends. Then, the V would be free to run to Church Ave. on weekdays (which would be more "natural"), and to Met on weekends. (would be nice to have weekday evenings as well, but thatwould get more complicated in transitioning). At the public hearings, we'll see. |

Sorry, but common sense dictates that the new V line will see former M along with J passengers either staying on the V or transferring to the V as opposed to going down to get the F at Essex-Delancey.THAT right there takes pressure off the F. You just don't want to hear the obvious. |

Exactly!!Anyone with half a brain would realize that the new V will take considerable pressure off the F at Essex-Delancey just from the fact former M riders who want midtown will stay on the V and the J riders looking for midtown will for the most part stay on the platform at Essex and get the V since that will now be one less stop than the F going to midtown. |

I'm sure that NYCT's Operations Planning department either have done observations of the number of passengers changing to the F at Essex or will likely do so when the new service is implemented or more than likely both as a means of comparing loading both before and after. |

Right:The people that matter are the ones who have the numbers. I'm just using plain old logic, something 33rd Street apparently doesn't want to see because he will be losing HIS one-seat ride on the V to midtown and will have to stand on a less-crowded F train than it currently is under the old setup. |

Posted by Wallyhorse on Fri Feb 5 02:39:02 2010, in response to Re: Essex-Delancey Station, posted by 33rd Street on Fri Feb 5 00:51:29 2010. Um:If you want to see a neighborhood that needs a second line desperately, try my old stomping grounds, the upper east side. That neighborhood has the densest population of any area likely not only in New York, but the entire country. I used to have to either walk or take a shuttle bus the building I used to live in had over to the 77th Street station on Lexington Avenue to take an overcrowded 6 train (even at night) on my errands (and this was in the 1980s when the subways were in much worse shape than today). When the SAS is finally built, even the stubway to 96th will be a massive improvement, but even that is still going to only relieve the crowds on the Lexington Avenue lines ever so much. THAT's why I have little sympathy about your losing the V at 2nd Avenue because of it being merged with the M in something that is long overdue and needed. |
