I am absolutely sure about the false walls and what was there before, namely no stairs or anything other than another angled wall. Some of the original street exits at the 23 St end may have been reconfigured with the construction of the Citibank building and G connection, especially with the addition of escalators to and from the street. But the stairs from the platforms to the mezzanine are original and have not changed, and none have been covered up or removed. |

Are the brown speckles within the "23 St-ELY AVENUE" mosaic nameplates original too? I don't think I've seen them elsewhere at any IND station.Anyone recall what the Woodhaven Blvd IND station looked like before its mid-90s overhaul? Did the walls have "WOODHAVEN" on those white-on-black tiles underneath the tileband? Seems odd the station lacks them, along with the same white-on-black tiled arrows pointing to exits. |

The lanes aren't much different, but the the installation of the "Jersey Wall" median, and some of the work on the "S" curves cut the carnage considerably. All you have to do is look at the barriers and figure that many of those big scrape marks used to be a trip into oncoming traffic, or off the road. |

The fenced off space where kiss and ride was formerly possible was always extremely cramped. IIRC it has space for 2-3 cars. In my opinion, the fencing off had nothing to do with crime but was related to the trsffic hazard caused on Union Turnpike by people stopping their cars in the traffic lanes while trying to get into the tiny stopping area. That makes sense. |

I was on a Transit Museum Tour of the Upper level station during the 90's. We went down and walked on the roadbed (no tracks) for a bit and could see where the tracks would have separated with some ramping down towards the QBL and the others staying on the same level and curving to the right. |

The last time I was over there the North/Queens side was Jamaica Ave and the South/Nassau side was Jericho Turnpike.Even though now it's all Jericho Turnpike the North/Queens and South/Nassau split remains. If I'm not mistaken the dividing line runs down the middle of the roadway. Which brings up an interesting what-if scenario from the very recent past. During the riots in early June when the city imposed a curfew, it would have been illegal to drive west on that road segment between two Nassau County locations because the westbound lane is on the Queens side and the driver would have had to cross into the city. As far as I know the NYPD didn't make any attempts to enforce that, however. |

As I understand it, that passageway was built so that there could be an entrance at 38th Street, replacing the 38th Street station on the Sixth Avenue El. Anyway, there was a widely reported rape that occurred in that passageway and led to the closing of it and several others. |
