Yes, "open" containers are not allowed. I remember a few years ago there was a fuss about what an open con tainer was. Some say coffee cups, even with the lid on with the little opening, could be considered an "open container".....but just try and enforce having people not allowed to take their cups of coffee with them in the morning. That would be bullcrap. We have enough bans in this country already, we don't need to take everything away from people.... |

Years ago you were able to buy soda on many platforms in machines. Most of the time you ended up with nothing but that's another story ;-) Those were the machines that would drop a cup and then fill it with your choice of drink. Quite often the soda would pour out before the cup dropped....Oh I remember that, but it was only 10 cents lost. Those floor standing candy machines were the worst. They were identical to the cigarette machines you'd see elsewhere. Drop in you dime and pull the plunger for you selection and it wouldn't come forward to release your selection. Slide the coin release down to refund your dime and your dime wasn't returned. Those machines were probably made by the same company that manufactured slot machines ! Getting rid of those vending machines was the best thing the TA did. Bill "Newkirk" |

What's so bad about eating in the subway? Why must it that just because an idiot cannot handle enjoying their meal in the subway everyone has to suffer?Eating in the subway sometimes results in discarded uneaten food on tracks or platforms. Discarded food attracts and results in the subway rat population. Rats from 6th Ave. subway find their way to KFC joint in the "village". Rats become media stars resulting in stores' closure. Stores' closure results in employees being laid off and store management spending money to clean and exterminate vermin in restaurant. If people just discarded newspaper and not food, coffee cups and soda bottles in the subway then rats would have nothing to feed on and multiply. But there's a small chance rats may want to read the lasted buzz on Britney Spears in the Daily News but I wouldn't worry, rats can't read ! Apologies to "Tunnel Rat" Bill "Newkirk" |

I was a train once, and some slob of a woman was eating KFC. She would just take her chicken bones, and just fling them on the floor in front of her. By the time she was done, everything was just thrown on the floor, bones, napkins, box (and the bones weren't even left in the box, just everywhere). Of course people walking past, etc, and within a short time, people had walked the bones halfway through the car. Disgusting. What a slob.Of course, that's more the minority than the norm. While many people are slobs, most people have a little more respect than that, even if they just leave the bones in the box or bag on the floor. There's trash cans everywhere on the stations, I never understand litter. It's so unnecessary. it drives me crazy when people throw stuff out the windows of their cars too. Take it the fig home, and throw it out! And this winner slob of a woman with the chicken bones would probably be the first to compain that the "subway is dirty". |

I have it perhaps 2 or 3 times a week, and usually only one cup those days. I enjoy an occasional Starbucks-like coffee. For me, coffee has to be good, and strong when I drink it. I can't stand the piss-water most delis serve, that's probably why I only have coffee 2 or 3 times a week, tops. |

Soda is probably worse for you because it has a lot of sugar in it.As for coffee, I never understand why people put sugar in coffee. As far as I am concerned, it's undrinkable with sugar. A good cup of coffee should be able to be drunk without sugar. Actually, a good cup of coffee should be able to be drunk black! I grew addicted to it back in my younger days when I was trying to work and go to school - My problem was that I was a very bad procrastinator - I would put off reports or studying for tests till the last minute. Then I would drink coffee to stay up all night. I remember going to work 9-5, then coming back from class and writing a report all night finishing it at 8am only to have to go back to work and then class after that. Did the same when tests were scheduled. Thanks to heavy doses of coffee I was able to stay awake 48 hours or more at a time.Today I must have built up a tolerance because I can drink a super grande cup of Starbucks and fall asleep 5 minutes later.... |

Which is *why* the LION would bring back food concessions in the subway system. Imagine having a Subway in the subway! But as part of the concession (and they can use the mezzanine as a dining area) they would have to maintain and clean the area AND provide clean and sanitary restrooms. There would be signs at the boundaries of their concession: "No food or open beverages beyond this point" What the heck. If you can't beat them, join them. Maybe you make some money off the venture. I mostly agree about the hot beverages, I never drink coffee, though sometimes I will drink tea at a Chinese restaurant. We have it in our dinning room, but I never take any there. I also like hot chocolate, and we do have that available in the winter time, but I never take any of it.ROAR |
