Rats (and mice) will be happy to eat newspapers. Just because you will not eat them does not mean that they will not attract rats.You need LIONs in the subway (to eat the rats) and while LIONs will not eat the carrion left over, but maybe they will do a number on that slob, mistaking her for a giant RAT.
